Need advice on set up...doing something wrong.

If you will provide all your settings I think we can determine if you have a problem or not. Auto +3 alone is not specific enough to evaluate your situation,Thanks:thumbup:

Auto +3
Threshold 30
Recovery deep on
recovery fast on/off tried both
trash density high
ground difficult
I've used noise cancel both 12" off the ground and on the ground....no change.

If I'm leaving out any pertinent settings let me know and I'll look for them. Don't know what else may be needed.

Dan, I really don't think your doing anything wrong. I got my etrac last year and in the first week of having it I got a merc dime at eight or nine inches. I'll never forget it because it was my first silver with the etrac. Oddly enough I was running pretty much the same settings you are. Stock coin setting, auto +3,ground difficult, trash high, deep and fast off, multi tones conduct.

it would be interesting if you would take that or a mercury dime and bury it at that dept to see if your etrac will pick it up now. Then all of us would be at ease :surrender:

If it drops to low you will not get very much depth say at 10 or less. If it is up to 19 or higher you should hit a 6" dime loud and clear unless you have some foreign metal close by the dime that your machine is discing out along with the dime.

There is a warning about possible damage using batteries with too much voltage.. says it can damage...also says etrac has built in protection. If the etrac did not turn on at one point, then possible damage otherwise no worries

Definitely not batteries as I'm using the rechargeable battery pack. My AA battery pack is filled with 1.5v batteries, but isn't in the machine. I'm thinking it's the coil. Still doesn't pick up merc, and the ground is nice and wet. I even unburied the merc and stuck it directly into a deep plug so that it was in compacted soil. I took E-Trac out on a hunt today, with limited success. Found a couple of wheaties but they were only 4" in the ground. My buddy has a quarter buried at 6 inches as a test coin out at the park, been there probably about 12 months now and I can hit that, but it isn't as strong as it should be.

I have asked you 3 times and you still have not answered or I missed it somehow in the thread....The reason I ask is the level of auto sensitivity your E-Trac runs at directly effects your depth capabilities. Thanks,Ray. .

Ray it is at 19 +3 on auto......i've tried it with manual at various settings up to 27, and still no change.

machine or coil.It should do better than the results you are getting according to my experiences. You said you thought it could be your coil and that is what I would test first.Hope you get it working for you soon as it is no fun having a new top end machine giving mediocre performance.Keep us posted on your situation,Ray.
