Need Help with settings on Delta 4000 for Relics

Hey Guys, Need a little help with settings on my Delta 4000. I have done some research and believe I have found an old civil war campsite in Oklahoma and have been given permission to hunt it. What settings should I set my machine to hunt for relics. I was going to just turn it on and not notch any metals out or should I run it on A1 or A2. This site is on top of a hill and hopefully Targets should be shallow do to erosion, but maybe not. There is also an old home place there also. I am positive this site has never been searched due to talking with owners of property who were unaware of the history of this land. Any help will be appreciated and I will let everyone know if we find the camp. I have only used my Delta for coin hunting so this is new for me. Thanks in advance

I would try as little discrimination as you can. Don't worry about pushing sensitivity real had because most relics are big and easy for machines to see.

I don't have the Delta, but do the Omega and I would run sen as high as possible, all the way up if possible or just to the point of it being unstable. I wouldn't use any disc and would run in 2 tones and I personally never use the notch feature. Most bullets and buttons read well under coins, so I would dig many of the lower readings. These aren't big targets, so I would set up and run as hot as I could. Good luck, sounds like you may have found a good spot. HH jim tn

Mode:

Try A1 as it will be the best-performing All Metal mode, but if there is a stability issue due to the ground minerals, try A2 as the Ground Balance is a bit different for some tougher conditions.

... OR ...

Use the Discriminate mode. I usually like to hunt old relic type sites with an all metal accept Discriminate mode just for the quiet operation at times, but the ONLY Teknetics models that adjusts down to a true zero rejection, all metal accept setting is their T2. So, get the best performance you can with a minimum setting of '10'

Discrimination:
Set at '10' (the minimum Disc. number for the Delta)

Sensitivity:
As high as possible. '8' is the default, but at away-from-town sites I often work the Delta at '10' to '12'. Set it high and reduce it only if there are EMI issues.

Volume:
ALWAYS make sure it is set at the highest setting!

Sweep Speed:
Don't sweep too quickly. Keep the search coil about 1" to 2" off the ground surface, make nice and smooth side-to-side sweeps, and remember to overlap.

Oklahoma soil is tricky, as you probably know. Some places low-medium mineralization. Excellent depth. Other places, depth is compromised severely by mineralization/soil type. My suggestion. When you get to the site, bury a dime (fill the hole with dirt) to what you think is the fringe of detection depth for your machine. Then start experimenting with the sensitivity/other settings. You will probably adjust the coin depth a few times. See what gives the best 'site' specific performance. Running at the fringe of sensitivity can really help or really hurt you. Best to have a target to gauge how your settings are 'really' working.

And do consider the excellent advice already offered by others prior to mine.

Thanks for all the help guys. I started out in discrimination mode and then switched to A2 mode. Lots of natural iron in the ground. Got to search for about 3 hours before weather stopped us with no finds to report. But I feel confident that I am close but area is big and I can go back when I want. I will let everyone know if and when I find it. I found several areas that looked to have been dug out, kind of a bunker type area but nothing located. Area is about10 acres ,have alot of area to cover. The only thing I saw that was exciting was a huge whitetail buck, and of course gun season opened today and not yesterday.......lol
