Need help

Hi folks,
I think this time I need Your help.
This morning my etrac had a weird behaviour. After half an hour of hunt it started to sounds off with no reason. I tried to change frequency and it calmed down a little, then it started again.
At home I made some tests and discovered that maybe its troubles come from a bad coil connection on control box plug.
When I set sens. Up from 23 and I tap on control box connection (with coil connected) it starts to sound off, but if I put on auto it stops. Maybe it is normal, maybe not.
I would like some of you make the same test and tell me his results. I donno if it is time for a travel to Minelab for a check up or not. It is new, just used two times, so I am really upset.
Anyone would be so kind to help me?
Thank you.

Hello, I,ve havent had that trouble but make sure your coil connection is tight at the control box.
Check your coil cable, make sure it looks ok.(no bad spots).
Also higher sensitivity may give you problems inside your home with your TV, computor ,wiring, etc.
Take it outside away from powerlines and metal and see how it acts. Good Luck! HH

Hello,
Thank U for reply. I did that test outside, and results are the same. It starts to sound off from sens 23 to 30 when i tap the metal connector. But when I put on auto it remains silent and I hear just the steady threshold hum. Connection is firm and there are not bad spots on wire.

It sounds to me that manual 23 or higher is just to much. Whats it running at when you switch to auto? I am gonna guess 19 or 20?

Yes, 19. But, can you all check it out if yours act in the same way? Maybe it could be a shielding problem, because I noted that is enough to laid one finger on connection to make it sound off...considering that our bodies are conductive, that could be normal...

It is simply a matter of TOO MUCH Sensitivity...More is not always better...I usually cannot run my SENS more than 22 Auto...When it hits 23, it starts to false...even with the coil in the air...Set your SENS to 22 Auto and leave it there unless you can get it higher with no falsing...Any coil that is nocked into something or banged on is gonna false...The vibrations set up self harmonics in the coil field.

HH,

that doesnt sound normal. i run mine at manual 24 all the time. one thing, when you say "sound off" can you be much more specific. what exactly is the tone and what are the numbers. it does sound to me like there is a problem. sorry to hear about that. minelab should be able to fix it for you. its either the coil or the coil connection. i had a problem with mine, minelab was able to fix it and i havent had the false readings since (almost a year now). also one thing you can try is that inside the connection between the coil and the box, the "female" receptors for the male pins might be bent apart causing a bad connection. you could try ever so gently bending these inwards so that they grasp the pins more securely. also, try cleaning them. im not sure if that would help but it wont hurt. (as long as you dont break the female receptor pins)

good luck.

Thank U guys. I think that how hot we can run our machines depend of EMI presents in our local zone. What I need is the following.
Just plug your coil with no middle stem on and tap connection while running in manual from 23 to 30 sens. And report what happens...
Anyone could be so kind to do this test for me?:please:
I almost sure that my beast is in good health, but need confirmation...
Take r.
Ale

Even in my garage with the coil held away from everything, I can run my sensitivity up to 30 with no real falsing. I tapped on the conector at the control box with no difference. Tap the coil and thats another story.
