Need inputs, detectors not turning on.

Steve In Michigan

Active member
I have 2 older detectors, 1 GTA500 and the GTI2500. For some reason they will not power up. Both seemed to have gone down at the same time. I haven't used them in a couple years (knee problems with both knees) new batteries, and I got the last set of new battery holders from Garret. I was told the stopped making the battery holders 2 years ago. Any thoughts or ideas?

I got some battery holders from Amazon when I needed some, first set I wasnt thinking and they had 3 batteries on each side, so I had to reorder the right one. Garretts battery holder were the same one I used on my Sovereigns and I think other detector use them too.
That is the first thing is the holders and new battery's as many of the holder crack on the bottom and cant hold the battery tight.

Hi Steve.
For how long were they not battery-operated?

I looked over the new ones. They looked good and the batteries fit right. Thank you for the suggestion.
OK once they are in the packs take a voltage measurement to see each pack has the 6 volts needed. Check each pack separate at where the wire connect on the terminal on the pack. If this is good on them both then look if the the connectors are bad or broken wire as I have seen that before as it sounds like there is not voltage getting to the circuit board One I had that was dead when I went to use it I found where someone left a battery in it and one of the contact in the pack was bad with a little corrosion as as the pack didn't have the correct voltage when tested is how I found it.
Some of these are hard to find where the problem is, but you got to start somewhere and this is the most common problem I have seen with the ones that use the 2 4packs with one was under the connection on the connection with a wire broke under the clip that connect the pack to the packs.
