I have two of the cheaper bounty hunter and Fisher pointer that is packages with some metal detector combo packs. They do work. I finaly wore the tip off one and repaired with with epoxy, still working. It is not a Garetts however, and does not have the light, and has only one sound but does have a built in vibrator. It is not perfect but then if bought separately you can get one for about $40 and they are easy to handle, unlike the square box kind Whites sell and harbor frieht sells. The Garretts is better I am sure but try to find one under $120. The Bounty, Fisher pointer can be found on Amazon. They nave to nearly touch the coin but if the soil is wet or moist its pickup range is increased and no matter what you might think when you are looking at that clump of soil or in the hole this little tool is worth every penny, as opposed to every dollar. If all you can afford or want to spend under $50 then don't bother with the other cheap models go for this one, but if you have made some great finds and have some extra cash then I would go for the Garrett, but really I think paying $40 for any of these devices, Garrett included, is robbery. You by the car and it has no wheels so the dealer being such a nice guy sells you the wheels for a half to a third of the price of the car. But you know, after looking around and seeing some of the other high end models, man, give me a Garrett, it is apparently not so expensive as some others. I would actually go for the Harbor Frieght model if it were not so clumsy to use and awkward to carry and store. Fisher metal detectors are recognized as top of the line, right? well, they sell the cheaper type pinpointer, same as the bounty hunter models they give away in the package deals. They are not junk just not as sweet as the Garrett, oh, and they work, too. Yes, I am saving up for a Garrett -- almost have enough clads in my treasure jars to buy one.
