New field

I went to the original field that I found all the artifacts and coins this spring, but the farmer planted corn making it very difficult to hunt with the stubble and fodder left behind.
Still, I found 5 wheat pennies. The owner of the property behind had offered to let me hunt his field (even further off the road). His field was clear of fodder and stubble, so I took him up on the offer but didn't expect to find much since it's so far off the road. Boy, was I surprised!
I found a lot of the same stuff I found in the front field, just much less concentrated. So far, 2 mercs, a handful of wheat pennies and a 2 Indians and a silver ring (squashed flat).
2 pieces of sterling silver. One being a saltshaker from a Gorham silver set. The other I'm unsure, but it's definitely silver (next to the watch cover in the last pic).
Several tokens. And the front cover of a gold-filled pocket watch. The thing that looks like a bullet is brass; I have no idea what it's for. The brass shotshell item is actually a pressure sensor...maybe automotive?

I was really surprised at the things I found and I've hardly scratched the surface. Spend about 5 hours between 2 days wandering the 16 acres. I dug a lot of trash, so it hasn't been easy. I passed over most of the targets under 75 TID using the Deus-2.
All the targets around a nickel range (61-62) have been tin or aluminum so far, but I know there has to be a few nickels out there. Possibly a gold ring or two since I've already found 8-9 rings (two sterling) between the two properties.

Nice results…looks like you have “Williams” cleaner bullet too below the long tubed item at the right side of photo.
Unless that is the piece you say is brass.

Looks like a very productive site. Do you know the history behind the fields ??

Nice Trade token as they are always nice to find and there is some that collect them with so worth serious dollars. The brass item on the top on the right side probably is a tire tester for air pressure it looks like and if you can clean it up a bit it will probably say Scharder on the side of it. I have several and not a 1 of them I been able to slide the inter out of it as this is where the numbers are.

Definitely brass. I thought it was a bullet when I pulled it from the soil. It has a nub on the flat end as if there was something attached there.
I have no clue but would be nice to know what it was for.

Donna, I am beginning to believe it may be a site where the Twp. hosted an annual expo/carnival. With rides, booths, etc. I plan to go to the Twp. offices and ask what they know about the area. I'm finding this stuff including iron targets 500-800 ft off the road.
I've found ointment tubes, 2 piece makeup tins, Tokens, dog tags, Chauffer licenses, automotive parts, good luck car sales tokens (one for Dodge pictured).
Pocket watches (bodies, parts and covers), 8-9 rings (2 silver), the rest junk, close to 100 wheat pennies and a few indians, about 20 dimes, 2 SLQ quarters, many pieces of flatware (3-4 sterling silver), A few souvenir items, aluminum buttons, WWI buttons (2 pictured). old lock bodies, tons of brass/bronze hardware.
I've searched a number of fields and without exception, after about the first 100 ft, the targets dissipate to almost nothing. Despite the work of the plow season after season.
Including silver coins, I've unearthed over 6 ounces of silver. No gold except the pocket watch cover. There are so many targets I tend to avoid digging anything under 75 TID unless it's a great signal. Most of the time its a chunk of tin or brass.

Rick, the tokens are badly burned out from the fertilizer (my guess). Same with the pennies. Just enough detail to read some. The aluminum/tin tokens are rotted much like zinc pennies and much of the targets are beat to hell from the sod farming equipment. Even large chunks of brass/copper, and lead look like they spent time tumbling in the equipment before they were spit out.
I have to believe that some of the chunks I've dug damaged the farming equipment despite how strong that stuff is built.

Yesterday I dug 2 mercs, about 10 pennies, and 2 nickels (one buffalo and one 1895 V nickel).
The site is very productive and I only have today left before it gets too cold for me to hunt for the foreseeable future.
I will be at this site for the next couple years if the owners permit. Wonderful farming community where I live.
