What he said. After 2001, some companies focused on the promised land of government contracts to get rich quick so to speak. Nothing wrong with this other than the consumer market got outdated. With increased competition from abroad, this seems to be the new golden age for civilian detectors. Expect big things from the American companies, including Garrett and First Texas. They're going to be out looking to find new ways to blow our minds.
 
Garrett is always working on improvving their technology for all of their pproducts, both security and metal detecting. I doubt if it would be released any time soon, as the demand for the AT Series and ACE Series is so great at the moment.
