Hi Everyone one
My name is dave and i live in the maritimes of canada but was born and raised in Indianapolis Indiana , I am 48 years young and really really want to learn this hobby that you all seem to really enjoy!!!

I have never touched a detector in my life but i am working on trying to het the new V3I from Whites !!!

I know it is probbly over kill by a long ways but hey i think if i get a good rig then i will definatly have fun learning it :)
and get very good with it .
lol you will find i do things to the extreame if i am interested in it!
Again i hope to learn and make some new freinds here :)

Welcome to the forum wolfbane. I'm sure you have found the V3i forum already. Lots of good information there.

Now i guess its time to start saving my pennies:)

Hi Ella very nice to meet you :) and when i get one lol not sure when yet i will def be asking alot of questions:)

Hey GGG very nice to meet you as well :)
Well i thought it was way overkill for a 1st timer lol but i try and do all the home work i can lol plus the wife will only let me buy one so i thought i might get the best and learn all i can over several years .
I really look forward to learning and enjoying this hobby especially once i get a detector in my hands lol

Wolfbane I don't have that detector but really like the MXT as its a turn on detector and no learning curve.
I run the XLT and 5900 DI PRO SL plus other units.
Learn the simpler detectors and use them as backup machine when you aquire the V3i

HI joel great to meet you as well :)
I understand what you guys and gals mean when i should get a turn on and go detector .
That being said once i get one the wife says thats it lol and i would hate to get a unit i will learn with in a year and then want an upgrade and can't get it.

That all being said what would you recommend that i get if not the V3i ?
would a dfx be to much or ???????????????

I think the DFX would be a great choice as it is as simple or complicated as you choose to make it. It's got turn on and go programs so you'll be out hunting within minutes of turning it on for the first time, OR, you can customize an existing program, re-name it and call it your own, OR, create your own program all together. I'm new at detecting. With the DFX I can open the book "Digging Deeper with the DFX" by Jeff Foster and really blow my mind, OR, I can use a factory preset and get moving. You don't want a detector so complicated to learn that it holds you back from getting out there, but you don't want a detector you'll outgrow anytime soon. For me, half the fun of metal detecting is "the thrill of the chase", or in other words, learning and understanding your equipment so it performs the way you want it to. Just my two cents here. Thanks for reading and Happy Hunting. Matt

hey matt great meeting you to :)
i couldn't agree more that i want something i can use immediatly and yet still be learning the detector in say 2 or 3 years later .
That being said my hobby at the moment is building and overclocking water cooled computers :)
so the program end for me would be alot of fun and the get out and exercise part is even better !!! But i would really like the thrill of the hunt if that makes any sense:)

What would a good used dfx system run me ????

Check the Findmall Detector Classifieds

Lots of the sellers only want to send and sell to Continental US:sadwalk:

Kellco will ship to Canada as I've bought from them.

Yea Joel thats a shame to lol as an american living in canada i get that alot it seems .

I check the classifieds here alot lol and am hoping to get a good setup at a fair price .
just don't know what a fair price for say a dfx would be????

i am thinking maybe in a week or so just going for it and seeing if i can't find one on here to help my self and another forum member out:)
i believe in keeping the cash with the members if possiable:)

but i will wait and keep on checking and see if one comes up that the person will ship to the maritimes in canada:)

Hey Dave
Whenever you choose what machine you want I might be able to help when it comes to shipping to Canada. I have a friend that is a dealer.
Ella

thankyou i might just get with you when the time comes:)

as long as it helps members and my self i am all for it:)

I doubt if you will outgrow the MXT, that is one nice detector. My Nancy is the Moderator over there and she knows her way around the MXT and keeps up with me in finds. Almost all of the goodies are well within the reach of the MXT. The V3i and DFX are very similar in that they are programmable detectors and I nominally recommend a newbie start off with something much easier to use. The biggest problem with getting a programmable is some people can't get a grasp on the knowledge necessary to properly set up and use them, they get discouraged and don't go any further in the hobby.

You really can't go wrong with the MXT and they hold their value if you want to upgrade someday.

wellits looking like a mxt more and more for starting out but i do so love to fiddle with programs lol
is the mxt better than the mxt pro?
or are they the same ?
or should i go with the mxt pro?

I want to thankall of you for your paitience (sp) as i am sure you have answered all these questions a million times for newbies such as myself!!!:)
