New Pro Pointer arrived

today. First impression, it is definately a lot better built than the Harbour Freight one i had. Doesn't get as much depth as i was hoping though. I had read they will get about 3"-5". I am only getting a little over 1" on a nickle or a dime in air test. Took it out to my test plot and tried a nickle at 2" and couldn't read it. Is this actually about all i can expect for depth. I still like it even if that is all i get, but i would have liked the 3"-5" a lot more. But it is well built, small enough to not get in the way, and i think it should hold up well to use.

battery and still getting 1 1/2" on dime, 1 3/4" on quarter, and 2 1/8" nickle. I did get 3" testing it on the old battery. Tried what the directions said about un-doing the detune by turning it off and then back on away from any metal, but no help. Still better than the Harbour Freight one though.

That's about what mine gets. I think it's plenty, I love it.

Mine gets even better depth on seasoned buried coins. 3 inches on tabs. Sometimes if you use it real slow with the probe vertical you'll get just a tink or click on a deeper target. It might just click like 2 times a second. Then you know your target is 2 to 3 inches deep. I find that holding the probe strait up is the best. I was hunting the other night and my Pointers battery died. The probe played some cool beeping music. Installed a new battery and all is well.

After you turn it on, take a coin (I usually use a penny) and from the battery end, slowly slide a coin against it going toward the tip. When I get the coin just about to where the LED is and it just starts to pulse, I'll back the coin off just to where it stops. Then while holding the coin there try the test again. Should get more depth.
After awhile, it only takes a second or two to quickly slide a coin in place with my thumb. Beam in on the target, then I set it aside on the ground while I dig the target. After recovery of the target, I turn it off and drop that penny back into my front pocket. It's actually quick and easy and after awhile you get really used to it. That is if you need the little extra reach of the Pro Pointer.
There are previous post's on this - probably explained better than I can. Anyway a nice little trick for the little extra oomph.
[add] - I also filled in the opening for the audio with black RTV. I didn't need the audio and I once went into a stream and the Pro Pointer got submerged. I can still hear it, just not as loud as it was. Anyway it worked fine after it took a drink into the stream.

You can also use the metal blade of your digger to amplify the signal in the same way described with a penny, just push it against the side of the unit and pull it down until the beeping stops. Works better for me than the penny because the digger is already in my hand.

3" with the metal blade/coin technique is probably real close on a quarter, 5" is an exaggeration.

Once you use the Propointer for about half a second, you'll never go back to that Harbor Freight cheapie!

ok no bs ..i have just got one (again!) had it for for like 4 hrs
only! i just air tested and the and found the sensitivity changed depending on how i held the coin ...flat side better , thin worse, so iam guessing if u were lookin at a buried coin, then ud get more depth on one laying flat. never tried it before!,,also the thing does detect medical grade metals....i have screws and a couple plates in my hand and it cherps away...lol

when i got mine, air tests were terrible. but out in the field is a different story. you will really like the pro pointer. i am very satisfied with mine. don't want to hunt without it. could, don't want to.

I have had mine for about four weeks and it is the best investment that I have made in detectors so far. It found smaller gold then my Scorpion and helped narrow down my search for other things once I found a target with my stinger.
It's on my belt at all time while I'm target hunting till I need it.

Yeah The plate in my head sends it beeping and chirping hehe:crylol::rofl::laugh::yikes:

In actual hunting, if you can't pick up a shallow target with the tip try laying it down and search with the side. I think it gets a little more depth off the side and it's easier to cover the target area. It sure is a handy little gadget.

Yes it is a handy little gadget. I took it out the other day and used it to help find the stuff in my post "Best day so far with the Ace 250". It made things a lot easier. Good investement.

i scanned my parents cat too ! came up negative ...amazin what boredom can led too ! cat doesnt like the 250 ! runs away !

When you get in the bottom of a deep hole I think you'll find that the depth that the Pro-Pointer gets is just right for figuring out exactly where your target lies. If it detected any deeper it would be too hard to pinpoint. It is also useful for target ID. If you're getting a signal 3-4 inches from the bottom of the hole you can be pretty sure that the target is a can or something larger than a coin.

Let us know what you think after you've recovered a few hundred targets with it.

I really enjoy mine too, great tool, but being a Vibraprobe user for many years, that speaker noise drove me nuts. So, I filled it's little hole with silicone and taped it over. I can hardly hear it now....ahhhhhh!!! In my opinion, it's a redundant feature and one I can do without. Might as well be hunting without using headphones too and attracting even more attention to myself!!

Great minds think alike. I stuck blue tack in the speaker whole for the same reason. Very pleasant to use once it's toneed down. My favourite pinpointer. My other pinpointer just collects dust now, even though it can go deeper.
Mick Evans.
