New Sovereign GT Video

Des D

New member
Hi all,

If you have the time, please take a look at my new Sovereign GT video :detecting:
It was shot over a long time and a labor of love in the editing!

Many thanks for watching!

Des Dunne
:minelab:

Thanks Des, Fantastic video that should solve a few questions and sort out the odd debate especially for people new to the SovereignGT

Ok, after watching this video, I am puzzled about headphones. Des recc. 32 ohm impedance headphones. I have little knowledge about electronics so am wondering if my headphones are not suitable. I am using Troy Pro headphones (impedance over 100 ohms). Are they not matched correctly with the GT?

Minelab recommends 32 ohm headphones to more closely match the output of the GT. Headphone specs are a little out of my expertise in terms of electronics. My areas of knowledge are very specific and have some rather large holes in it when it comes to electronics in certain respects. My best guess is that 32 ohms more closely matches the window of volume control the machine puts out. Other factors in this might be speaker response to various audio frequencies and such but I'm way out of my league in those respects and am just giving my best guess. Maybe somebody with more knowledge in speaker dynamics (Synthnut?) can clue us all in here.

I just went out on my back porch and did the nail / quarter test ( It's raining like crazy here ) ......I set this thing 7 ways from Sunday, and I can read the quarter in All Metal , Iron Mask On and Iron Mask OFF ..... I can put the nail 2 inches away, 4 inches away or 6 inches away ....I can still read the quarter every time ..... I have my disc and Notch all the way down !!......

I also checked it at all heights of the coil, and also checked it at many different Sensitivity settings ......Band one and Band two ..... It doesn't matter ....My Sovereign is reading that quarter right along next to the 12D common nail . ..... Iron Mask on or off doesn't do much of anything different when I switch it "OFF " ..... ?????? ...I thought I was NOT suppose to hear the Quarter with the Iron Mask "OFF " as in the video .....???????? ....I don't know how many other adjustments that I can make to try to make that quarter go away like Des did .....??????.....Jim

I'm going to put this baby to rest later today with my own video. That test only shows that by turning iron mask on it will perform the same as most detectors. Every detector will pass that same test some much better than the Sovereign with the nail and coin being on the same plane. This all got started when it was said that with iron mask on the Sovereign was somehow different or better and will do something other detectors won't. As a matter of fact if you want to go by that type of test I can show several detectors that will beat the pants off the Sovereign once you start adding more nails to that same test.

Scroll down and check this video out ...... There are 3 video's .....Talk about Nails ? .....

I'm still trying to get this quarter to NOT sound .....No luck in ANY mode ....Jim

Can't wait to see it Crazyman. As a new GT user, I am a little confused after watching this video. I certainly didn't understand his notch settings. Also, after reading posts on here, setting the sens to max wouldn't increase depth, but DECREASE (in mos soils) because of mineralization tying up the processor of the GT. I may be wrong, but it's all confusing now......lol

Always nice watching a Sovereign video. It is nice to see Minelab stop treating it like a step child. I never thought of the volume control as being a setting for power. So I learned something new about the Sovereign today.

We've been debating that Volume /Gain for a while now ..... Basically acting like a boost ...... Looks like I"ll have to get an inline volume control for my phones ..... and sharpen up my shovels too !!.....DIG BABY DIG !!!.......

Great video, clears up a lot of unanswered questions about the controls and proper settings for machine . I have my sov gt for a little over a year and this should help immensely. Thanks Again!

Yes, can't wait for Crazy's video. Even though he is a new user I have learned a lot from him!

Great video Des. Thanks alot! Can't get enough of those Sovereign video's :detecting:

Talking about headphones for my Sovereign Gt, I use the Grey Ghost headphones. For my SD-2200v2 I use Koss headphones. I like the Grey Ghost best.
