New :teknetics: G2 ... READ THIS ... The complete post on my evaluation.

and I admit centering sweeps for best ID does take just a tad longer. But just wait until you hit some deeper coins or other neat relicy type stuff in amongst the iron for that AH HA moment. :smoke:

Well anyway I did make it over to a Lake Michigan Beach this morning. I will make another post on the results. In the mean time let me say that I got enough of a workout digging that I had to shed my jacket despite the breezy 40 deg F weather. :hot:

I want one but I think that 150 bucks is too much for a 5" coil. I'll buy a GBSE for 499 or less and considering the savings on the 5" coil it will be like getting the GBSE for 350 bucks... I guess I can live with that but i'd really rather have the G2. I wish the 5" coil was an opiton with a new G2 I would jump on that, unless it cost 650 bucks.. DOH!

it's possible (f.t) might have something available for xmas?..maybe they
market the detector like the 8000 omega with a 2 or 3 coil "package"
save a little money!..hope springs eternal!

Keep in mind that I used an assortment of all the search coils during the first battery use, and mainly the 5" during the 2nd battery used. The last one was a mix again, but mostly the 11" DD then 5" DD, about 70% to 30%.

The first two batteries were the Duracell 9V alkaline and the first one got me about 21 hours and 18 minutes,. The 2nd Duracell ran about 20 hours but I wasn't keeping a real close watch on it. I was on the first as I was comparing two Duracell's in the G2 and Omega at the same time. I usually get about 20 hours, to maybe 21, in the Omega when I use the Duracell, and about 1-2 hours less when I have used Energizer Gold or the standard Energizer alkalines.

I only had one Duracell handy when I put the 3rd in the G2 and had a couple of older single-packs of Ultralife lithium 9V batteries around. the have an expiration date of 2009 but I put one in my Omega anyway. On the last Duracell Alkaline I still got over 20 hours but I am not sure how much more. It could have been a half hour or a couple of hours, but I didn't check it that closely. I just usually get 20 or more hours with a Duracell in a Teknetics model.

I still had a couple of the Ultralife Lithium 9V batteries left so that's what I put in the G2. I'm goping to monitor it because I didn't in the Omega. I just needed power at the time and I am still showing 3 bars on my Omega as of yesterday.

Regardless, unless a junk battery is used, I think all the 'Greek' series models do quite well. Earlier this year I needed a battery replacement in my Omega and I stopped at a dollar store and bought some 9V alkaline off-brand. I got over 16 hours with it and then went to a couple of Energizer and Energizer Gold alkalines. They gave me 18 to almost 20 hours. The Duracell have been very consistent and very close in their provided use-time.

PS: The Ultralife Lithium are just a little snug but still fit okay.

hi monte!
just wondering IF you have used "rechargeables" in your omega,or g2?
if so,what has been your longest interval with them before going dead?
thanks!

Monte, when you change batteries, has the detector died, or do you change when like one bar remains? I've only checked my battery time twice and got 19.5 and 20.5 with the Coppertops and did so when I had hunted for a while, less then an hour, with one bar left on the Omega. HH jim tn

I've never let the battery completely die, but on one with the Omega it got to the 'flashing' stage when I was going from wood-chip playground to the next on a 'wood-chip marathon.' I usually change them after it starts blinking but on that one time I forgot to and the audio got very weak very quickly and I had to turn back for a battery swap. It had been blinking too long. :( Usually, once I get to a single bar I watch it close, and then once it starts to blink I quickly go to a fresh new battery.

I have dropped to a single bar and if I am working 15-30 minutes per site and moving around, I'll let it go until it starts to flash. If I am just hunting and note the single battery bar, I will change it after an hour, even if it is not blinking. With the Duracell 'copper-top' batteries and wearing headphones all the time, I usually get at least 20 hrs. and on occasion I might come closer to 22. I checked battery life closely at first but after the 4th or 5th battery I didn't track the actual time used, instead just close guesstimates.

We are getting about the same battery life it looks like. I haven't checked battery life since last summer when I first got the Omega, but I usually average 22-25 hours a week hunting and find I am replacing batteries one and sometimes two times a week. Thanks again. HH jim tn

Some rain came overnight but is supposed to ease up for a few hours today so I am headed back out in a few minutes. Yesterday I decided to really watch the battery length in the G2 because the Omega is still on 3 bars using the 2009 date to expire Ultralife Lithium battery! I don't like rechargeable batteries, but I do watch to see which alkaline lasts the longest, and that's been the Duracells. but now I wonder about the run-time with these Lithium batteries? So far so good .... especially since they were free. :)

rechargeables definitely will not last as long as conventional alkalines
however,i use them all the time, and with the exception of them dying abruptly
in the field, find them to be perfectly fine.i also carry with me two "back up"
sets of alkalines just in case...the "negligible" amount of electricity used to renew them
is a small price to pay for the "value" received,in that you can renew them thousands of times over a long period of time!
