New to Explorer II need info on headsets

Got the standard Koss-UR30 headphones. It must be my little head or something because they won't stay on my head when digging (setting down unit pulls headphones off). Seems as though I have to take them off and then to put them on again when probing (sunray). I have been using Ratphones for my MXT. Finding the blocking of the ambient noise helps alot in deciphering low signals, and the crispness of the tones are a must. Is there a comparable set of headphones for the Explorer II (the rats don't work/plug configuration). Thanks in advance. HH RD

Black Widow's are the best I've ever used. Nice sound on deep signals. They really block out the noise too.

Rats should work, you just rev., the plug ends, if you mean size of plug get adaptor from RS.

Good Hunting!!

Yup - the cord plugs/unplugs to swap end for end to accommodate both mono & stereo plug jack machines. Some headsets use a switch for this but the Rats have a way that if the cord goes bad, the cord can be ordered separately. Kind of a nice feature I think. The cord is already of high quality, and it don't seem common hearing the cords go bad.

I just got a length of curly cord and made up an extension cord for the standard headphone, no strain on the headphone cord when you lie the detector down, fixed mine.

hope this helps ,,,,,, Boony

I've just got back to what you with a curly cord extension too Boony,
I attach the 1/4" socket to my belt, and plug the other 1/4" male plug into the SE.
As far as headphones go I like both the Sunray Gold Pros, and my Rats...:)

Quick question Snowy...I bought a pair of Sunray Gold Pro's..My first impression was they are small and it feels like I am putting on a pair of kiddy phones. My second impression was...Tinny sounding...ping ting a ling. I have Gray Ghost Ultimas and think the world of them. Have you ever tried GrayGhosts before? I keep the Sunrays just for back-up but hope I never have to use them.....I am just confused and wonder if anyone else felt the same as me when trying them for the first time. Maybe its just me?

I have a new set of Rats and instead of having a mono/stereo switch you have to switch the ends of the cord around. The cord pulls out of the head phone jack and you take the opposite end that was in your detector jack and stick it into the headphones and vice versa with the end that was in your head phone jack now goes into the detector and now it is mono instead of stereo or stereo instead of mono. Your's depending on age, might be the same, mine are about 6 months old. I like my Sun Rays better though, they seem louder, more crisp, but the ear cups are smaller. I can turn my threshold down another point with the Sun Rays than I can with the Rats and still have it audible.

Hey Gary, that was a much better and shorter answer than the way I tried to explain it above and let's see, you posted it 4 days earlier. Just thought it was funny how hard it was for me to explain simply reversing the ends.:rofl:
