New Waterproof Spray

Hi guys, not sure if you have seen this stuff yet but I know a friend that had his iPhone coated with this. That was about 4 months ago and he paid nearly $100 to have it done. Now it appears that you can buy this from a local home center for $20 and do whatever you want.

What you do with this information is strictly up to you but I may buy some and at least do the outside of my Pro Pointer. I can see where that would possibly keep it much cleaner especially on those wet, muddy days. Obviously doing anything more than that on most devices would more than likely void your warranty. It's kind of funny because they demo it on a phone but then I think somewhere it states "not for electronics."

I can see a lot of uses for this in our hobby but it's probably how daring you want to be with it.

Wonder if you could waterproof a coil that is not waterproof with that stuff ?

On a few websites I noticed that anything black in color ended up with a slight white hazy look to it after treatment.

Obviously this stuff won't seal up big holes and the biggest issues with the non waterproof coils is with water coming in around the cable gland and the actual water pressure itself causing a leak during a submersion.

It would be fun to use some silicone and some of this stuff on an old coil and see how it would fare.

I think for waterproofing something like a coil, I'd rather use Flex Seal

What about some type of Loctite or water proof epoxy. I know where I work we use a type of an epoxy that seals out water for some submersible pumps. The power cord comes through the cavity area of the well head and we pour the
epoxy in it to seal out water. It works too!

I'm sure there can be a lot of speculation on how to waterproof a coil but it all comes down to someone willing to take the risk of doing it and definitely voiding the warranty.

Unfortunately for the most part Xterra coils aren't things that you can typically pick up for $20-$30 and experiment with. Can the payback outweigh the risks? That's up to the user.
