I'm just getting back into this hobby, is there a one-size-fit-all machine?? I'm not real tech savvy so I need a plug and play type detector. I dig all hits so discrimination isn't that important to me. I want a machine that will hit all metals especially gold without having to change settings. A member of the local club says M/L 705 does it all, any one else care to give me their preference. Thanks.

Any of the XTerra's , (305,505,705), would be great for what you're looking for, they can be programed to your liking or a turn on and go MD right out of the box. My 705 was purchased 3 years ago and I still use my X30 that I got 10 years ago, both have been coin & jewelry killers.

Most detectors have an all metal setting or you can knock out all disc features so they all will find gold...technically.
I have found gold from iron to low zinc, but it does come in even higher if pure or big.
I can't dig everything anymore, I wish I had your stamina and patience but I lost that awhile ago.
To compensate I studied my detectors hard and also the behavior of gold to even out the odds as much as I can because I do use disc.
It isn't a lot in the long run, gold is the ninja of all metals and an expert at disguising itself, but pushing my chances over to the positive even just a little is a victory.
In th 5 years I have been doing this I found about 8 or 10 gold rings when I dug most trash, about 25 after I quit digging every blasted thing out there and took a more scientific approach.
That is the great thing about this hobby...everyone can enjoy it doing it in many different ways.
My advice...get something you enjoy standing behind and swinging.
If you roll over gold with almost anything on the market, (shallow gold, anyway), and you do dig everything you will find it.

For a lot less money you can pick up a Tesoro Cibola.They do a good job of ignoring small iron and still hitting the nonferrous targets.Even though I mostly use higher end detectors, I still break out my Cibola every now and then.It's light,simple and will find targets others have missed.
