Night Vision? check this out for a Christmas laugh.

So I hunt one beach alot at night at one of the crowded beach locations in my area. I am always complaining to my wife after I hunt the beach that because I am using a flash light while looking down people will sneak up on me from all directions to see what I'm doing and surprise the HELL out of me with " ARE YA FINDING ANYTHING? well daaHHH! any way this christmas she gets me of all things, an infered hunting binocular for night vision. So I can take a good look around and see if anyone is around the area im at every so often... LOL well another peice of equitpment I guess I'll have to find a way to attatch it so it;s easy to get to and use. Who Knows I might find other uses for it as well.
Soon as I use it I will let you know how it works... now if they could just make one that points out the locations of the coins as well. LOL

That's a great gift. I just use a head lamp for night hunting with a red light on it. I've had people walk past me at less than 10 feet away and not notice me. The red headlamp really is covert and works great. If your night vision doesn't work out, I suggest giving one of these a try. I love hunting at night and a headlamp is the only comfortable way that I have found to do it. Good luck with it though, I hope it works as that would be too cool. HH -Marc
 
All in all, though a great gift, it is truly impractical for use. I would rather have a headlamp. A high powered flashlight, like a tactical light would provide illumination of an area. I use a streamlight tactical light to penetrate the dark. Periodically, I scan the surrounding area for bad guys, bobcats and the like.....LOL Of course the bobcat shows up in a lot of the places I am.....well at least at home......LOL

I use a night vision scope a lot outdoors. But for metal detecting, i is simply not practical......one more bauble for a bad guy to take after he sneaks up on you on the beach......

I would recommend a hunting buddy at least, and both of you carry something that will more beneficially light up the night.....like a .40 cal Glock.......just a thought.

I think best strategy is not to be visible, I like detect allot at night in the fields and sometimes in beaches and never use searchlight, usually at night near city is enough light to see what is going around, but with moon its very nice and only zombies can grab your hand from dig hole :crazy:

Thats why I carry my Lesche Sampson when I detect at night. There is nobody that I could come across that I couldn't defend myself against with this digger. Other nights, however, I carry either a taser or a telescopic knight-stick. I am a complete believer in personal protection but I wouldn't want to explain to the police how I ended up shooting someone, in the dark, late at night while metal detecting somewhere. I am all for guns, but night detecting is not an activity I bring a gun to. Another reason is I would say 90% of the time when I night detect I end up being "discovered" by a police officer. Here in minnesota they dont seem to have anything better to do than to ask a detectorist what they are up to metal detecting in the dark. I think a gun would escalate these situations dramatically. I am not saying don't carry a gun as I am for guns, I'm just saying there are other ways that are less risky. I still think night vision goggles are one of the coolest gifts I have heard about this year. HH -Marc
 
special night vision goggles like military use are wonderful---but they cost a bit :blink:. if somebody have them used for sale let me know :blowup:
