No backlight

I hear that the Safari does not have a backlight. What's the reason for not putting one in the detector? All the high end Minelabs have them. Even my X-Terra 705 has one. One would imagine that a detector with the name "Safari", in which you think of adventure, would come with the capability of night detecting. This is the only reason I'm not purchasing one. Hopefully there will be an upgrade with one. Anyone else find this an issue?

You don't need it, and constantly looking at the screen will imo hinder developing the 'ear' you need to get the most from your Safari. I would imagine that battery life is another (albeit minor with modern led's) issue as well.

I use one of those tiny clip on lights that you put on your hat to check the screen when I need it (my only night hunting is at the beach). I have it anyway for my targets so it isn't any big deal to me.

Here's your quick fix.

Buy a bicyclehandlebar flashlight mount and a small LED flashlight. Mount the flashlight on the handle above the control panel, turn on the light and away you go!

I use my head lamp that I use for Striper fishing works great. You can see the hole and the screen. Just don't shine it in the water if you are near a striper fisherman, that is a no, no.
