I'm not sure if this has been posted before. I done a forum search and nothing came up or the search engine was taking entirely way to long to show any results (10 minutes wait for results). So here goes nothing. I bought the 705 dual pack in November last year and when I went on a night hunt the other day I started to have some technical issues with my detector. About 2 hours into my night hunt I lost the sound in my headphones. Thinking it was the headphones so I switched to the onboard speaker. That worked fine for another hour or two and then no sound was coming out of the onboard speaker. I don't normally use the back lighting on this detector and this night I was constantly using it, then I changed batteries and even unplugged the coils a couple of times thinking that might have been a problem. The sound would come back on the onboard speaker but no sound when plugging the headphones back in. And like clock work the speaker stopped working again. I know I have missed some targets which to me is no biggie but spending almost 6 hours on the beach passing up targets because of the MD malfunctioning is no good. By sunrise I had enough with this machine and decided to go home.
This morning I headed out to a local park as so I wouldn't be to far from the house and again no sound from the headphones or the onboard speaker. I didn't drop my MD or get the control box wet so I'm not sure why the speakers or the headphone jack doesn't want to work anymore. I spoke with another MD'er at the beach and he says Minelab is notorious for the sound to quit working. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and can it be fixed? If this is going to be an ongoing problem Minelabs MD's then it's not worth keeping this machine and I probably will not buy another MD from Minelab if the sound is an issue with all of their products. Thanks
