noise cancel question

Hi all, Just a quick question about the noise cancel procedure. It says in the manual to hold your detector 12 inches above the ground when you noise cancel, does it hurt to hold it further than that above ground when you noise cancel like at waist height or does it have to be closer to the ground. Thanks all and HH.

I don't have a clue....I've done it a foot and sometimes right on the ground. Don't know if it seems to make much difference. I know some guys don't noise cancel at all until their finds start dropping off. Is there a particular reason you need to hold it at waist level??? If so, I would do it and not worry about it. Or try it twice and see if it hits the same channel both times.

The way i do it this. First get all your setting in order. Once i get to an area to detect. I switch over to a open quick mask. Look for a clean spot of ground "this can be tricky but it matters". Once found go back to your disc and hold the coil above the ground "steady" 12in or so until it's done. Make sure your about 3 feet from any shovels too. I have seen alot of people stay in there disc pattern and not even realize there nulling while doing a NC. I find my machine runs "ID & Separates" better. Also a touch more depth.

There was a posting on this sublect a while back - there were many opions on how to perform a noise cancel.

The answers simple ... most of us agree that the E-Trac could be or is the best metal detector ever made.
The engineers at Minelab that designed and built our machines tell us how to do a noise cancel in the factory Manual.
Why to to out guess them !
