not all is silver or gold

Aside from the batteries and paper in these pics, the rest is learnin' Etrac-ese language. I still can't tell iron from silver in most cases (especially if it's deep) I use Andy's old coin pattern, and multi-tones. I suppose if I use TTF I wouldn't be having so much trouble distinguishing the difference:rolleyes:. Maybe I should set up my quick mask screen in TTF. This is just SOME of the other crap you will find with your Etrac, I figured I'd post some, 'cause I don't see anyone else doing it......NGE P.S. all of it weighs in at about 10lbs.

Two things on deep coins.
1. Look at the co number, if it is stable, not jumping more than 3 or 4 numbers (uaually coins will not jump more than +1 or -1, look at the fe number.
As you swing watch the fe numbers jump, if they jump from 26 up to 12, and the target is deep, I always stop and go around the target and watch the cross hairs. I dug two fairly deep wheat pennies this past weekend that went as low as fe 28. If the fe numbers don't jump but stay from 26 to 35, then in most cases it's iron.
2. Before you dig pinpoint, if the target seems to move then it's most likely iron.

I've actually had to open up the bottom right hand side since finding these two coins. Clear out co 42-49 down to fe 27.
This will allow you to see what the machine is targeting.

the photos remind me why i use 2 tone ferrous or even 4 tone ferrous as of course the tones are split in horizontal lines and that puts all 10,11,12,13,14, targets on a high pitch and this suits me just fine i have over 300 targets from one 7 acre field and that makes me happy

markg,

You provided some good information, especially when you pinpoint a shifting target.
I found had some Canada and other Foreign coins come in at the bottom middle of the discrimination screen,
close to where Iron hangs out.

After several hundred hours on my E-Trac I have come to the conclusion that to little disc when coin hunting equal to much iron and other junk targets.Just because a deep wheat hits at upper 20s with a fairly open screen in no way meens it will not be detected with upper 20s disced out.The E-Trac is much more refined when running higher disc settings than many realize and able to hit close to the 12 ferrous line when IDing most good targets.

It has been my experience that the ferrous numbers actually drop on very deep or on edge coins both silver and copper. If iron is close to a good target the E-Tracs proccessor is able to lock onto the good target and ID as such if you have the bad target disced out.

All the things I mention were discovered while in preset coins mode with multi-tone conductive set-up.I find the ID to be much more accurate and steady as well in the previously mentioned set-up.

I have also discovered that the coins mode looses a very minute amount of depth verses a more open/less disc set-up.The E-Trac is a savage beast in trash if you will let it do its job and not try to accept to much trash into you disc pattern/mode

I am not saying I didn't get any coins or other good targets. I have found over 100 wheats, and a buncha clad, and of course about 50 pieces of silver. I was just showing some of the other stuff that is found with the Etrac, or any other machine for that matter. Very rarely does anyone show the junk they dig while in the pursuit of the more lucrative goodies......NGE The trash in the picture is only what I have found this year so far, not shown is about 15 pounds of copper and brass scrap.

I agree with Ray. I find IHs wheats and silver with the factory coin setting. I knocked out all the top 1 line in the top right side for silver dollars and most of the time use Auto+3. IHs come in at 11 or 12 ferrous and 34-38 co. Silver Dollar 1-46 1-47. Quarters (silver) 11 or12-47. Silver dime 12-45. V nickle 12-14 or15 Buffalo nickle 11 or 12-14or15. Jefferson nickle 12- 15. These numbers will vary a little but not enough to dig as much trash as you dug. I also changed my threshold pitch from factory 15 to20 which makes silver come in at a much higher tone. And the factory coin program will also find gold jewelry as well. Pay close attention to your cursor and you will not dig as much iron and junk. HH :minelab:

I think the point of the post was the display of the stuff nobody else shows off. The pouches of trash we all dig and dont think to put it in a big pile and take a picture. I have a fairly good size pile myself. Good Hunting

Spot on Flambeaux. But with every new machine, there is a learning curve. I could take my Explorer II with me, but then I'd never learn the Etrac. I'd rather take my camera and Etrac with me......NGE

I would love a machine that would hit the good targets the way the E-Trac does and still disc out 99% of the junk:detecting:
