Not sure what this counter-stamp is. ID help needed.:confused:

Dug this 1917 Wheatie the other day and just noticed the number 8 stamped into Lincoln. Anybody know what it is? Some kind of counter-stamp? Could this be rare? Thanks for any help.

I don't think it's rare. Anyone with a set of number punches could make this. As a kid, I punched a lot of pennies with the partial set of number punches I had.

If it was a raised 8 it might be a mint error, but counter sunk? Still I would put it in my pocket! Nice find.
