Took advantage of the thawed ground and warm (barely above freezing) weather and went out to a field that in the past I have found a lot of Wheat pennies in and some Mercs.
I decided to try out some settings on my Explorer II by Charles (NY) ( http://www.treasuregizmo.com/settings.htm )
Within 10 feet I found these 2 Wheat pennies in separate holes:

Then a few feet more and came upon this beautiful 10K 1945 Class ring:

The way the light shines through the stone makes this amazing...unfortunately the pic just does not do this justice.

Besides these I found a 1961 Jefferson Nickel, a ball point pen, a couple rocks and this whatchamcallit that screamed silver...but is probably aluminum:

The settings by Charles (NY) seem to work well in this field.
I don't know where to start looking for the owner of this class ring. The emblem in the center has a large C in it. On one side by the 19 is an M and on the side with the 45 there is an E. I don't know of any schools with those initials. This being a tourist town it is hard to say if it was lost by a local or someone visiting or camping. (This is the 2nd class ring I have found in this area within the past year. Still trying find the owner..I have his name..he was born about 1919 so may never find him. Hoping to find the next of kin of not the owner).
Hope everyone has a great 2008.
