Numbers?

New member
I hate to ask a stupid question, but what do the numbers, such as 12-48, stand for? I've been reading about ET finds and seeing these digits thrown about and I'd like it if they meant something to me. I should also say that I hope to be an ET owner someday.

The numbers are a rating in conductive,or ferrous readings.
Say the 12-48 in conductive would be a ferrous rating of 12 and conductive rating of 48.
There is a scale here for different coins!

Since we're on the subject of fe-co #'s ... does anyone know if there's a way to switch which # displays 1st? I probably would not switch them as I would be ALL messed up, but it seems like I read about it somewhere???

I guess I'm missing something. The numbers don't seem to correlate with anything. A 1$ gold coin has a conductivity of 11, while a 10$ gold coin gets a 44. Are larger numbers better, as with certain other machines? Lead has a range of 5 points, and button numbers are all over the place, from 5 to about 35. How do you know what to dig? What would a nail read?

A nail reads the same as a silver dime for me
No, really. The best way to familiarize yourself is to study the chart of TID #'s in the post above. If you are thinking about an E-Trac purchase in the future, purchase a copy of Andy Sabiches' Book "The Minelab Explorer and E-Trac Handbook". It's around $20.00 and will make sense of all the questions you may have to ask. For me, it also made it mandatory that I owned one. Great book.

Ha I'm on my 3rd read of Andys book... soaking it in LOL its a good book for newcomers of FBS technology and veterans too. Can't beat it tho I got mine given to me by someone who sold their Etrac!
Are they all signed by Andy or do I have a million dollar special edition ;)

One important thing to note that numbers can be all over the place in site where there is iron or other metals but this where learning the tones makes all the difference in the world. The Etrac excels in target separation. One last think no place is hunted out till it is etracd out.
