Got out early today for my first hunt of the year. Not much in the way of targets so I got excited when I got a 1-48 on the CTX, that usually means a big silver ring on the beaches I hunt. After digging down a scoop or so, out pops a silver ring for the first ring of the year. After another 20 minutes or so, I got another 1-47 or 48 which the machine said was at 2" deep and I dug up an Eisenhower Dollar Coin of all things.....well, that was the first of 11 that I got in the first 20 minutes on that spot. I concentrated on the big silver numbers passing up anything along the 12 line until I was sure I had someone's collection of Ike's cleaned up.....then I started concentrating on the smaller coin signals digging up a bunch of clad....or so I thought. Some of the quarters I dug up looked funny for beach coins, they had a real gloss shine to them. After getting home and checking things out (with the help of a friend), I found out I got 6 silver proof S mint marked quarters and the 11 Eisenhower Dollars were also S mint marked 40% silver coins. Ended the day with 2 silver rings, silver earring and along with the clad, the biggest bunch of silver coins I've ever picked up in one hunt on a renourished tourist beach.
My thoughts since this was at the waterline at dead low tide, someone dumped off a bunch of coins they either stole or they were planted for some kids to find and they didn't do a good job finding them.
Photo of Quarter edges has a clad coin in the center for reference.
