Spring is in the air...I hope and pray everyone has a great season this year. ....just a few more weeks and we'll have better weather. Just think the parks are filling up with stuff everyday. They been out there all winter sleigh riding pulling off gloves...losing rings, and chains and bracelets....Charge up those batteries! :detecting:

I know what you mean....we can see the grass in our parks for the first time in over a month! but we are getting 4 to 9 inches of fresh snow tonight! This winter has been the most snow I remember here in years! But like you said a few weeks and the change begins...:detecting:

It is definitely in the air!!! I live in a place where I can metal detect about all year luckily, but when I start seeing the buttercups coming up, I get pumped. They give away the old homeplaces every time!!!!! Funny, used to be that turkey hunting did that to me, now metal detecting. Sure is a fun hobby.

I say roll on the autumn back here in the uk , the summer months are the worst for land detecting the ground is rock hard, all the fields are in crop you get swarmed on by every flying insect , also I personally think where the ground is so dry you get less depth where as when the ground is moist it seems to increase the electrical field, just my opinion.:detecting:
Funny, used to be that turkey hunting did that to me, now metal detecting.
I was just reading through old posts on the other big detecting forum and saw a post from a guy who combined his detecting and turkey hunting. Ended out working well for him. He'd start detecting after the hunting slowed down but would paw the leaves with his foot from where he found targets in case it might attract a bird. He ended up with a nice tom that way.

I'm actually relieved the winter has been dragging on since w/ my recent back issues and now getting nailed by the flu, I'm not hurting myself by going out when I shouldn't. But I'll be more than ready for spring when this all is done! Lots of spots I want to rehit with the SE as well as some new ideas I've come up with.

A thought just hit me......are we all just a bunch of thieves?......of a different kind? We sit and wait to prey on the misfortune of an old lady losing a ring on her finger? LOL I am sorry but it was a weird thought I just had reading this post.......I personally would rather return a heir loom to an old lady than find it and sell it for a few bucks.......Just me I guess.....food for thought!.....I guess the way you put this ....I feel like a Hyena waiting for the deer to die....... or the lion to leave just to pounce on it..........OMG......I think a piece of the pirate in me just left!!!!........It has been a long winter alright!

Get the imagery of an elderly lady from "sleigh ride"? I don't think I've ever seen a sleigh in action though I've seen a few parked as decorations.

If these temps stays down, my back holds up, and my Jeep gets out of the shop, I may just go try to find an heirloom or such on the beach sometime soon.

I thought of combining the two BlackX and still may but will be too consumed at these old homeplaces to hear a bird gobble. Plus, I will be too busy looking for the Morels that abound here in the spring to kill a turkey.

I am sure that I will get out a few times this spring, just hope I fill my tags quick!!!!! Gosh I love Spring!!

Here ya go Old Sox and BlackX...

I "borrowed" this pic I dug up to give you guys a lift!

It won't be long ~ I'm sure ...

Thanks Snowy, thats some big ol turkeys. I have slacked off due to metal detecting, but I also make turkey calls. Here are a few of last year's calls.

I've never hunted turkey but I did manage to bag one while deerhunting--with the windshield of my Jeep at 75 mph. I was traveling back from a weeklong bowhunting trip to some family-owned property in PA when a big-a** hen decided to take off from the median strip in a perfect intesection with my windshield about 6" to the right of my viewing spot. THWACK! Scared the bejeezus out of me. I can still see her slowly running and taking off. I was mad though. Finally tracked her down and put her in a cooler--she'd run into some weeds before expiring. Took the carcass home, skinned it, cut off all the damaged portions and put it in the freezer for Thanksgiving dinner a few weeks later. Best thanksgiving turkey I ever had.

Nice looking calls, Sox!

D*** flu is coming to an end (flu shot didn't work this year). I'll probably head back to work today for a while, even if I probably still shouldn't. And my Jeep's supposed to be done on Friday. Finally! So I may head to the beach this weekend if everything's copacetic.

Thanks Rich. Most expensive Thanksgiving turkey I bet you ever had too. I couldnt imagine hitting one of them things in a truck at 75, dang. Good luck shakin that flubug, been bad this year!

I took this pic yesterday and we have another storm coming in Friday. It's been two storms a week all winter it seems.

Hey Bob, From the looks of it you should be able to start detecting around Halloween. Just in time to pack it up for winter to start all over again.
