OK time for upgrade

alright I've decided to move up. I have an exterra 70. I have extensive experience with it and several others(tesoro, garrett, and whites). I have really been thinking about the etrac.
Will I notice a definite difference in depth and quality of target descrimination and identification? I need some good advice on this matter. I would like to know, especially from x70 to etrac owners, what if any the learning curve from one to the other. How long did you feel confortable with it. Did you notice more targets at your old hunting grounds. I apologize if someone has already asked this, but this is a big money decision for me and need some advice.

I used to have the X-Terra 70 and it is nothing like the E-Trac. Tones on the E-Trac are a world apart compared to the XT 70. Without a doubt a big upgrade.

I came from whites machines, I can't say I get a ton of extra depth, but the iron seperation is something to behold.

I only fear 3 machines in this world if someone is using them at the same sites I'm hunting: E-Trac, Explorer, F75.

I went from the Terra to the SE then E trac. Noticed an immediate difference from Terra to the SE.

I will reply to this for my hunting partner. He used an xterra 70 all of last year. In one particular spot he has been over many many many times before with the xterra, and other machines back in the 80s he has managed to pull 1 indian head, 1 Half cent 1804, and one V nickel out with the Etrac this year. I would say it took him about 2 weekends of hunting to be very familiar with the E. I know he mostly ran his xterra in AM with multi tones, so the tones were no problem. Mostly what it took him time to master was the navigation of the menu as far as knowing what settings changed what. We talked on the phone quite a bit and I tried to answer all the questions he had and I think that also helped a bit. In my opinion, what you will notice is that the Etrac is just "Hot" on high conductors. She will not let you walk over a penny, dime, quarter etc without making some kind of a fuss. Even if the coin is near iron, or in a hole with iron, you WILL want to investigate, and that is going to lead to new finds in your old spots. Also on very thin silver coins, I do not think there is a better machine in the world As far as depth goes, the deepest coin i have seen recovered this year between our 2 etracs is an indian head penny that he recovered at 8.5 inches. That is a no bs recovery, I watched him the whole time. It was funny, he kept putting the sunray probe down there and getting a signal and kept digging and getting a signal till he got it out lol. The only thing that I can say negative about the etrac is the weight. Its going to be quite a bit heavier than your xterra. But as long as you are digging every now and then, and dont have to swing for a half hour or more without digging you shouldnt have any problems To me, my hunting parnter and im sure many many others the E is worth the pricetag. And if for some reason you dont like it? well they hold their value very well on the used market.

Trust me, In a post to this thread Mike hit on something to consider. The E Trac is heavier than the X Terra. However it is very well balanced. Also if you run it for HALF an hour and don't find something anywhere, leave for another place quick. I can't hardly get off my knees at any place I've hunted with it in almost a year. So the weight issue to me is not any problem at all, it lays on the ground most of the time while I'm digging. Now if doing a LOT of digging is a problem, definately do not get one. If digging DEEP holes is a problem, definately do not get one. If you can't bring yourself to buy a big shovel like a ground shark or something along those lines, really don't get an E Trac. If your buddies are using other brands and running around like rats swinging a pendelum detecting, ya'll will probably part ways, you can't keep up for digging all the holes, and you'll find yourself all alone anyway because they will be gone way ahead of you. Kneepads and a bigger shovel just may be required.........................

I upgraded from the x70 to an etrac and there is no comparison, x70 is good........etrac is literally amazing!!!!

The VERY FIRST coin I dug with it was a 7-8" deep barber dime UNDERNEATH 2 nails.
In little over a week with my new etrac I have dug the following in 7 hunts:

8 silver coins (5 were from sites I hunted to death with x70 before)
6 indians (2 from places pounded by the 70)
31 wheats (many from same sites as above)
1874 shield nickel (from another pounded 70 site)
asst buttons
asst relics
about $7 bucks in clad

and yes it is EASY to use. If your using multi tone on your x70 you will have NO trouble adapting to etrac

I've got "another ET" that will be here later this week. I'm gonna treat my friends to it while hunting and set it up for a relic hunting machine for myself. Got it used at an excellent priceI don't use the pro coil and had one here already and have already sold the pro coil that comes on it and have 650.00 in itI'm tickled to say the least! Be patient and one will come up for sale used.

The E-Trac will see things the XTerra 70 will never see in trashy areas (old fairgrounds and such). Here in my home town we were hunting an old fairground (full of light bulb bases and other metal debris) and I could see nothing with my Xterra 70 (it just nulled out) after cherry picking the easy clad off the surface. Andy came in with the E-Trac while it was in development and cleaned up, His comment that it was "Too good to release, because anyone could find stuff" was what made me decide to spend the money on the E-Trac. I have been back to this fairground many times since with my E-Trac and have found mercury dimes, silver roosies, silver quarters, wheaties, and even a clad Kennedy half. The E-Trac still null's, but if a coin is there, it will see it. Pickings are getting thin, but with patience, you can still find stuff there.

I even pulled an 1884 Indian out of a hole with 3 square nails in the hole with the E-Trac. I have too many stories to tell of iron or trash in the hole with coins. The E-Trac is exceptional in these conditions.

The Xterra has been relegated to backup or loaner, I don't even have batteries in it.

If you get an E-Trac, you won't look back.
