I found this button 2/3/12. It is slightly larger than a quarter measures approx. 1 1/8" I'm guessing or around 28mm. Based on the backmark I have been told that this style of backmark was used from the 1890's to the first half of the 20th century. I have also been told that it is a Marine Corps. enlisted button that possibly dates to WWI. Can anyone confirm this for me or give any information that says otherwise? I'm curious to know possible age, use, even possible value not that value really means much to me as I think it is a neat find and would probably just keep it anyway. Recovered from a depth of 8'" or so. Sounded very nice on the E-TRAC.
Front of button has an eagle with anchor and 13 stars overhead on lined field back of button says Scoville MFG. CO. Waterbury. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance
