OLD copper coin holder with silver coins intact

Dug this today at old home site.
I'd like to know what it is or what it goes with?
I can mostly make out New York stamped on it and you can see part of the patent date in the pics....
Have not removed coins yet and I might not.

Man that is a really cool find! Maybe a post office or old store would have these to keep money in? I don't know if I would remove the coins or not, it's so cool that there in their. Hopefully someone else will no more. It could have been just a homemade storage container? Really awesome find I would try to research a little more before I tried taking them out, might be better if there in there....HH

Inscription above "New York" inscription "THE B (or could be a P) _ _ _ _ MFG."(estimated four spaces with maybe an R in the second or third spot.
Also inscribed on the other opposite side are graduation marks denoting 1.00, 1.50. 2.00. 2.50 and so on up to 5.00 where it looks like the copper tube was broken off.

Tube off of an old change counter. Like the ones carried by gas station attendants back in the day. Would have tube like that for quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. lever to push down to dispense the coins.HH Dave

Also could be a coin purse they made some for specific coins that held only quarters or only dimes. Never seen one that had a counter slot like the ones on the old changers but maybe?

I have a tube like that with a visual slot lengthwise and graduated counter. It's in the room with our baby sleeping so I'll try to get it next time she wakes up. I searched google and havn't found anything like it so hopefully I can find mine to get more info from it. I know there is a fair amount of small print on it. Seems I looked for one like it before and came up with nothing. At least if I find mine you can see an intact view of it.

I found mine and here are the pictures. I searched the info on it and apparently I never tried to look it up before because it is easy to ID. It's a dime bank that you cannot retrieve your coins until it is filled at which point you tighten the screw and it pushes all the coins out the bottom. The bottom snaps in place and only comes out when the coins push it out.

I looked mine up and here is a site that says it is
"An 1869 dime bank stamped The B. & R. M'F'G. Co. "

I don't think it is that old. I found another one that has the patent dates.... Pat'd Aug 26, 1890 March 31, 1891 I can read part of the MARCH 1891 patent on your item.

yours shows the patent date, see my past post. I edited it so you may not have seen that.

Now that we know i has no real value other than being a great find!! Would love to see what coins are in it I'm betting Barbers. Congrats Dave

When it was first made, seated dimes were still being minted. Maybe someone lost it while climbing in/out of their buggy. It looks like it was stepped on by horses or ran over in a driveway. Lots of possibilities!

I would open it up...may have a key date coin in there.

Hope you checked the hole to make sure some of the other coins did not get scattered and went deeper in the ground . Key date coins are worth a lot more than the Item crushed but then again that would solve the mystery of the coins inside Would be a tough decision for me as well
