old farm fun

Got permission to hunt an old farm built in 1901.Couldn't wait to get there.Wow what a great day.Spent obout 3 hours there today. It was never detected!!!I started in the front yard. Got my machine going and started to hunt.My first hole out pops a silver merk 1944.What a shocker.Man I knew I had the right place now.Started digging wheats one after the other.About ten holes later I get another dime signal.I said to myself whats next ? Dug down about 4 inches and I see silver.Yea !! Took it out cleaned some of the mud off and what do I see.A Barber.Alright my first barber dime 1906.Well I almost fell over.I stoped right there and went to the car to wash it off and stare at it.Boy when I got permission to hunt the farm I new it was going to be good.I ended up getting 35 coins,All the pennies were wheats (or so I thought )When I got home I cleaned the coins off ,and one of the pennies was an indian head 1893. Ended up with 4 silvers, 2 1944 merks, 1 1906 barber dime, and a 1942 silver nickle. What a day.I took all the coins over to show the owner.Boy was she surprised with all I found. She said I could come back again any time. I thanked her for letting me hunt. Can;t wait to go back. This was one of the best days I've ever had. This Safari is making me very happy.Tried to send pics wouldn't work.Been hunting lots of tot lots ,parks etc. But nothing beats hunting an old property.I'm going to find some more. Keep on digging.Buy for now.

Dave, sounds like you got virgin territory. If a corn field is available be sure to hit it.

Dave-

Wow, very memorable hunt there. Nothing like hitting virgin territory. Glad you have the opportunity to go back there, but don't wait too long, unless you know the owner. Time after time we see many of our comrades show the owner the great finds and then the next time you're back there, you find out the owner withdraws permission. Seems like the owners talk to their family or friends about your finds and then some of them have or have access to detectors. They now get to hunt and you're out of picture. Get 'er done.

Some people go to heaven before one dies, as you did metal detecting
on that old farm. Great finds. Congratulations.

Congrats Dave on the farm and the coins. That is a great days hunt! I remember my excitement the first time (actually every time) I saw "one dime" on the back of a Barber. Nothing quite like it. I know that there is more to be found. Go slow and really listen for those deep signals. Can't wait for some pix.

Got one pennie. Will be sure to go back and try again. When I went to hunt the orchard there were 5 deer staring at me.What a bonus.Talk to ya'll again.

Dave400,

In the future, please try to post the photos of your finds. We like to see the great
finds that others are retrieving from the ground.

When your done hunting the farm, it might be nice to give the owner a little gift card or something similar as a token of your appreciation. It may help gain you access to some other places to hunt as she no doubt has friends.

Dave400 , did you happen to notice if the dimes id' between 38-39 on the TID and also id' on the graph id bar below pointing to 'i' or "l' in silver ? I found that when recovering a couple of older silver dimes- 1898-o, 1928 that they have those characteristics.Curious if you had the same experience?

Mtnmn-great suggestion to thank the landowner and foster better public image of md'ers.....In my experiences, I offer something that's been recovered, rather than a gift card.

The merks came in at 38 solid. the Barber also was a solid 38.Didn't notice the graph id.The wheats came in at 36-37.And I did fill my trash pouch as well. Alot of old copper roofing nails.I guess from the barn roof. The rang up as 36 same as a penny. After a while I just stoped digging 36's by the barn.Still trying to get pics on line.I'm not to good at that partAs soon as i can I will post some of my finds as I have quite a collection now.
