With the hot and dry conditions in my area, I have recently started water detecting for the year.
Yesterday I searched in the river where an old ferry crossing was and found some modern coins, a silver ring, and this old pad lock.
I researched the company and found that they were in business from 1834 until 1913.
Not sure exactly when this type was made, but it at least dates back to 1913 which is quite a bit earlier than I was thinking it would.
I'm guessing it was used to secure the ferry when not in use since I found it just below where the ferry crossed at.
