Old People

I'm 63 and I bought my first detector in 1982 and have been with it since.

On thing to comment on about this hobby is it does not discriminate based on age. It is a hobby where a 83 and a 13 year old are competitive and usually treat each other as equals.

I'm 66. Detecting 15 years. Just had an EKG in my yearly, and doc said I had a heart of a 16 year old. Have the bad habit of smoking, but the good habit of going to Silver Sneakers 3 times a week.

47 here and still going strong. Think I started when I was around 30 or so.

It's kind of funny that the stigma attached to metal detecting by the general public is that it is a hobby for kooky old folks. I still remember being 8 years old, asking to use my grandfather's radio shack detector, and marching into his back yard in search of treasure. I remember the only great find for the day being a dime near the original clothesline posts, cut off below ground level. I could take you there today to show you exactly were I found it, MANY years later. JJ

I am 56 Still out there detecting and digging in the dirt with the 9 year old Grand Daughters...........

I've been detecting in 1974; I was 15. I am 57 now... Just a young guy.

I hope to continue metal detecting for years to come just as long as my health lets me.

I truly enjoy this hobby and I never tire from it.

67 now, 68 in 6 days time....don't know how old I feel cos I haven't been through the whole range yet. Detecting is one of my passions (rather call it that then say "obsession"), and the peace of mind it can bring is helping me in ways many people could not imagine.

Was hunting with my dad at 10,got my first detector of my own as 8th grade graduation present in 1972,I am now 59 and I remember telling my dad that I was thinking of giving up the hobby each year because it was getting hard to find even two dollars in silver each day or at least 20 dollars in clad and things were really getting bad when you could not find at least 5 rings in a week.Dad hunted until he was 72 before he passed I have to at least hunt to age 73 the completion as best coin hunter is still on.
