I dig my first large cent this week! I believe it's 1803 I can make out 03 but the coin is pretty crusted. Anyone tell me the best way to clean this coin up? I also found a old button that reads on the Back (James S. Smith Co. New York) Front has a Eagle on top of a Crest bottom of the button reads EXCELSIOR. with Stars around the outside edge. The button I cleaned with soapy water and Q tips and Came out pretty good. I will post Pictures soon.:help:

The button, based on your description, is a New York State seal button. A picture would be helpful. Tom

I still dream of finding one someday.
