I recently purchased the Omega 8000. I haven't really used it yet because it's been to cold or raining. However, I took it outside today and practiced using the ground balance. After ground balancing (auto) to zero bars I tried to detect coins that I buried today at 4'', 6'', and 8'. My detector would not give a signal on neither.Air testing everything is find I know that the coins don't have the halo effect yet but should this be a concern. . I have detecting experience but not with the Omega. Thanks.

The Teknetics Omega 8000 has no problem with going deep,,,Just got home from SC and could not believe hitting a coin at 8 and 10 inches,,,You may need to send in for checkup on yours but mine is like they say a coin magnet and also good for relics,,,Good Luck to you and Happy Hunting,,,,Darrell

It should hit the at least the 4" and 6"with no problem, even if just buried. What kind of air tests are you getting? Will it hit a coin just laying on the ground? What is your g b number? HH jim tn

Maybe the coins are buried in a trash area, and or some electrical interference is the culprit. I have never owned an Omega
But if Jim says it should hit em..it should !!

I don't remomber the GB number. Air test coins 6 - 8 - 10 -12'' no problem. Coins laying on ground no problem. Soil is low mineral. AM seems to work find detecting coin in the ground. It's just when I switch from AM to Disc. that it won't detect.

You need to tells us step by step how you are doing the ground balance. Also your level of ground mineralization. If you don't know, city & state you live in would help us.. We need this info to give accurate answers. Plus it would help you if you tried the detector in a different location to eliminate location as a possible cause. Air testing should also be done as a problem identifier. What coins & distances are you getting in air tests.

I would try another location. You might have bad ground, emi etc ....

Be sure to do a proper ground balance. Sounds like that may be the problem.

I live in southeastern NC about 26 miles from Wilmington. First, I put the the detector in AT. Then turn the sensitivity up. Find a clean area of soil. Press the GG button while pumping the coil from 6'' to within 1'' from the ground. I usually get a number in the lower 50's with a low mineral reading I haven't tried changing frequency yet.

Do you put it back in discrimination mode then after doing that and how much discrimination do you have on it?? Sounds like so far your doing things right.

Yes, I switch it back to disc. mode 16 or 17.

When I gb mine I go by the sound. I usually only have to pump it up and down about 4-6 times for it to reach in Ground Grab while holding the button down a quite mode with no increase or decrease in sound while pumping. Usually my ground reading around here in the machines I have (AT PRO, Omega 8000 and G2) all end up in the low eighties for a ground ballance setting. What did yours say?? Try by sound not by bars and see, then test out over the coins you burried.

I finally got a chance to use the 0mega today at the beach and I am well please with it. My first target was dime about 7 1/2 '' . The Omega lock on with no problem. Didn't find much but I had fun and my arm don't feel as thought it may fall off from swinging it. The problem with ground balancing it was bad soil and a lot of power lines overhead. Thanks for the help everyone.

AH you figured it out yes emi from powerlines and bad soil a 1-2 punch combo there. Almost wigged you out didn't it, not being able to detect objects. One just never knows do we. Good discovery there and a lesson learned too.

Yeah. I have the same problem with the At Pro in the same area.
