Omega became a nickel hog today.

In between showers today, hit a tot lot that I hadn't been to for a couple of weeks. Although tot lots are quite easy for recovering coins as most are shallow and lock on pretty good, this one yielded me 9 quarters, 6 dimes, 23 nickels, 3 zincs and a nickel reading junker ring. None of the nickels were more then 4" deep in the wood chips, but I was getting readings from 54/55 to 61/62. Some no doubt were slanted and on edge, but that is a bigger spread on numbers then I am accustomed to recovering nickels at. The 3 and 4 inchers seemed to give the high readings. I was using the 10" coil with 75 sen. 16 disc. g b of 82 and d3 tones. HH jim tn

Good job on the Nickels Jim, 23 in one has got to be some kind or record.

LOL ...... my F5 is a nickel hog too ..... I've found $22.00 in the last 6 weeks in nickels alone !

to be had. In my mind, there are sites that have been hit many time previously by detectorists that weren't confident in their machine's ability to ID nickels more reliable than some tabs, beaver tails, and some slaw/beverage foil, hence ignoring all of it. The guy that has a mission to recover nickels and hits the right site can really clean up!!

I got two buffalos and a V today in about 3 hrs at a "hunted out" park. I'll clean 'em up and try to get a pic posted tomorrow. Also got a ring and part of a pendant... plus some junk but it was a good day. The Omega really is a jam up machine. One of the best machines on the market IMO.

Two of the nickels had a date and the other might. One buffalo is 1917 and the V is 1902... It was nickel day today !!

Congrats on yours. I found on the iffys I could click into AT and get a better TID.

This particular school tot lot seems to always yield good numbers of nickels and change in general. My record is 25 nickels from a single tot lot and it was this one. Some of you guys are finding some good older ones. I haven't hit a V for a while myself. HH jim tn

You are right Brad, I believe like you that there are a lot of nickels that get passed over just because there are so many trash items that hit just like them. In my mind, they seeming should be the second most lost coin. I've always enjoyed finding them and kind of look at doing so as a challenge. I know from 1972 to the early 90's I never found many nickels, then I acquired my first cz detector and have been finding good numbers ever since. For me, finding a v nickel and a Buffalo with a date is more exciting then finding a Merc. and silver Rosie dime. HH jim tn

Found with the Fisher F5 with the stock coil at a ball field.
