Omega came today

My Omega 8000 came today. Never got a chance to take it outside but did play with it indoors. It seems to be of decent construction.... nothing like the old Fisher detectors I'm used to, but time will tell I guess. The detector is very lightweight and the controls are simple to operate and easy to set up.

Testing the detector over various targets shows it locks on coins well the ID is pretty accurate. The tones are nice and easy to adjust but D3 and D4 have a weak response after about 5 inches from the target. I have a Depthmaster Plus and thought I would try it on the Omega to see if it would boost those
weak sounds on D3 and D4 tones.........Well, it WORKS! Now the D3 and D4 tones are nice and solid sounding in the headphones. Without the Depthmaster I doubt that I would ever used those D3 and D4 tones just because they were so weak sounding, but since I haven't had the detector outside hunting yet I could be mistaken. If you can find a Depthmaster Plus for sale I suggest you jump on it because it will work on several different detectors that do not have a volume control. The Depthmaster Plus has a volume control built in and it works very well. You will be able to hear those weak signals that you
could have missed without it. I have used my Depthmaster on my Silver
 
dioramix, Depthmasters are no longer being made, but they do show up on feebay occasionally. These audio amps were popular back in the 80's and 90's and were sold by most detector dealers. here is a couple pics of what they look like in case you run across one.
I bought a few of these through Kellyco years ago and you might contact them to see if they might possibly still have some leftover. Good luck finding one for sale because most people that bought them never sold them.

My only complaint about the construction of the Omega, is the screen, it doesn't take much to scuff it. Bought a dust cover off Ebay, not the best, but, it gets the job done.

If you like coin hunting you will love the omega it is a coin killer I got rid of mine but no fault of the machine what so ever I just wanted something else that I felt would fit my needs better for what I wanted.
I never went out with it to do what anyone would call relic hunting but I did find some good targets with it such as an old lock, a ww1 button, and some old plow stuff and things like that so I'm sure it would do well at that to but as I said for coins before the omega I had another machine that's got good ratings that cost more and I actually did better with the omega than I ever did with it and if I can ever afford to have 2 detectors I may get another one some day I like it that much.
Enjoy it you got a top notch detector in my book.
 
cadman_us, I agree with you about the screen... it looks prone to scratching if you aren't careful. My main concern was the ears on the coils....they look very thin and in cooler weather could be a problem with them breaking and with what First Texas asks for a new coil they should be beefed up alot
more than they are. I may be nitpicking on the build quality of the Omega, but after being used to using a detector that weighs about another pound more than the Omega it certainly does feel lighter built. Even with the 11" coil it still feels light as a feather compared to my CZ5 with its 10 1/2" coil.
I will post more as I get more hunting time with the Omega, but so far I'm liking the detector alot.

You can take a screen protector for a E-reader or PDA and cut to fit it on the Omega and this will solve your screen scratching problem. This is what I did for my sons Omega.

For the coil tab issue I bought lower rods for each of the coils. No more pulling off a coil and possibly breaking a tab.
