Omega Using The 5DD

I haven't seen hardly anyone using the 5DD coil on the Omega.It seems Most are using the 11DD or 10"concentric.Those that have used the Omega with the 5DD coil in iron and nails I would like to hear how it handled those conditions.I have read plenty of reports of the G2/GBP using the 5DD in iron but not the Omega.

I prefer the 5 on my Omega. It is just so much faster to pinpoint and nearly as deep. I am not comfortable digging deep in many places I hunt anyway. The 5 just centers so well I don't really need to pinpoint- I know within an inch where my target will be. I am way more productive with it (507 coins this month). I find the 11 better to cover acres of ground. I haven't been impressed with the 10 at all. I know some guys really love it. It just hasn't done it for me.

If you don't mind me asking what was it about the 10 inch you didn't care for? Also you said the 5DD was almost as deep..Almost as deep as what? the 10C or 11DD?

The 5" is a MAJOR competitor! Awesome in iron.

The 5" coil has approx 1 1/2" - 2" less depth than the 11" DD depending on your soil mineralization. This depth difference is pretty much straight across the board on the various Tek/Fisher models. If you ratio the size difference between the two coils, as Bart say's 'it's a major competitor'....
I personally find the 5" to be a 'Holy Terror' when doing sidewalk grass strips, where the trash levels are usually extreme, but most of the coins are 6" or less in depth. The trash separation of the 5" really shines like no other in the grass strips. Especially, right up against where the curb meets the grass/dirt.

I cannot say anything specific, but in general the big coils never seemed to hit harder and go deeper like one might expect. I bought a 11dd for my F2 and was not impressed. It seems secondary to what really matters, but the 5 incher is noticeably lighter and I have much less shoulder soreness after a 5 or 6 hour hunt. That may color my feelings more than I want to admit, too. Bottom line, while I don't cover as much ground, I seem to pull more targets 'cuz I search a tighter pattern and I recover my items so much faster. I feel I do a better job on the dirt I walk and I'll never know what I overlook so I don't miss it as much. No one is following me with a much more expensive rig finding gold and silver just a little deeper. I can't afford that!
