? on explorer II please read post

Im thinking about selling my explorer II and wanted to find out what do you think i could sell it for. if i do sale it i will list it on ebay or in Metal Detecting Equipment Classified Forum i bought it 10/04/2005 i have 2 coils 7.5 with lower rod and 10.5 with lower rod also have X-1 pinpointer and extra upper shaft 1 rechargeable batterie and 2 Standard Batterie packs 1 home charger and 1 car charger and manual let me know. i need something realy lighter what other detector is as good as the explorer how about whites DFX

TFO - I have had both. I prefer the EX11. If your soil is highly mineralized you will not be happy with the DFX.

Dont take me wrong i love the explorer i think it the best out there but it is heavy minelad need to make the explorer lighter somehow i need to find something lighter and will go as deep do you know of one

I don't think you will find a lighter "equal". But, if you do want to sell it, give me a post if you will sell the X-1 seperately. I am in the market for the probe.

Instead of selling, why not try a harness to help take the weight off the arm, I've seen several which were homemade and they were effective in allowing the person to hunt for hours without fatigue.
The harness could be as simple as a neck strap similar to one used
on a saxophone, with a loop attatched to the stem of the detector where the hook from the neck strap would attach.
Why give up your EX II if you can adapt it for your needs.

69scrounge gave you the best advice and I will second it. Either buy or make a harness and give your EXII a second chance. You won't find a better detector and the harness will make a huge difference in the balance/weight of the machine. I bought one from DOC's a couple of years ago, "The Swingy Thing" is what I think it's called but I've seen others, some of them home made. You have a lot of money invested in this great piece of equipment and I know for a fact that it can pay for itself several times over if you give it a chance. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Do you like the detector other than the weight? I would agree with others that most of the good ones may be about as heavy as what you have of perhaps just a bit lighter. The swingy thingy may be a good option for you. Lots of folks use them it's worth a try. If you do sell, I would be interested in the extra upper shaft if no one else has inquired yet. Seriously give the swingy thingy some thought. Here is the link to where you can see and purchase it. Doc is well known in the industry you won't get ripped off. It may be worth the $30.00 gamble before you call it quits

I had a DFX...yes light weight good detector But endless tweaking. Just way to many program variations for me. Explorer is heavy, screen is sometime hard to see.......BUT the best discriminator detector I've ever used.....Give the EX another chance....

i think i will order one of them swingy dingys i thank thats what you all called it. i can give it a try before i sell it because i realy do like the machine i dont think they make a better detector them the explorer II the only back fall is they are heavy

I am always watching Exp ll's on ebay just to see what they are going for. It seems like well equipped ones like yours always sell for between 1,000 and 1,100. I bought mine on ebay for 800 but it was just the detector in the box with no optional equipment. You may consider selling your items separately. I don't know if you could get more that way but you could check into it. I am interested in an X-1 along with alot of people on this site so that's a good start.

I bought my Explorer from someone who also needed a lighter detector.

He got an Fisher ID Edge and really likes it.

Cant tell you about the DFX.

Hi Pana, I suggest weight lifting a bit, 2 months and trust me, you'll feel your Explorer as light as any $100 detector, I've been doing it for a few years now and I feel really comfortable with the Explorer II's weight, I usually run out of batteries instead of getting tired swinging the trusty Explorer. Not bragging here, justa recommendation that will pay off, I just bought the Bowflex's select Tech Dumbells and they're great, I just moved here to the U.S. (November) and these guys are 30 dumbells in one, I don't need a barbell now, they're a bit pricy, but they're worth it. Here take a look:

(552 - Up to 52.5Lbs on each side)

(220 - Up to 20Lbs each side)
Pretty neat huh? You can find them at $250-$300 on ebay with the stand (552 - The 220's are cheaper). That's where I got mine along with the bench. The great thing is that you dial the weight you want (2.5Lb increments) and you just lift.

There are 2 Models. The 220 & the 552. The 220 has a maximum weight of 20Lbs total per side & the 552 has a maximum of 52.5Lbs per dumbell side (105Lbs total).

It sure does help especially when i have the standard 10 .5 "heavey coil" fitted. Most of the poor balance with the explorer seems to be from the standard coils weight, After studying the balance problem with the explorer my own personal view is that the explorer has 2 main problems with regard to its weight/balance.
1. The coil is without doubt heavy causing it to "pull down" so when your detecting your having to lift it all the time.
2. The rear of the machine (battery compartment area) has little weight to it. More weight at the rear would surely counter balance some of the weight of the the coil.
All in all its just a poor design with regard to balance. The explorer is not heavy its the standard coil that is way too heavy.
