One half hour for Tesoro to find GOLD! :clapping:

I swapped off the Little Yeller Feller I had bought for my bride to a nice fellow in NC for a Silver Sabre uMax.

Big Brown delivered it yesterday.

Gave it the smoke test today, at a different local park on the way home from the office.

My other Tesoro machines all run the undermount box... Some are aluminum, and one is the larger plastic box.
They are lite-weight, and pleasant to use.

So I begin to sweep across the turf, dig a few targets, and discover I'm kinda futzing around with my probe, in the same hand as holding the Sabre... Crikey! I'm using this uMax, holding it with one finger as I search!

Amazing little machine! Holding it supported by only one finger! Crazy!

Less than 30 minutes after getting out of the truck, I set on one knee to dig perhaps my tenth target, and I discover this 10kt CZ ring!

By golly THIS machine was trained very well!

I'd say it passed the smoke test!

So, I stopped, and switched over from the nice performing 10" to the 4RC that came with...

My gosh, this is almost embarrassing...

Big ole' fella like me with only a hockey puck on the end of a stick, lite as a feather, and a speed bump of a control box!

Now I'm knowing why Tesoro isn't the #1 top seller of metal detectors in the universe, yet... They are NOT macho!
I've always been happy with Tesoro performance, but I'm sure they'd sell more if they had a TV screen with lines and arrows, flashy lights, and blinking numbers on it... maybe a motorcycle sized battery box and shaft made of heavy-wall tubing to give it heft that a real man can relate to...LoL

Within a few more minutes I determined the little hockey puck would trigger on targets deeper than it's width, even with a quick swing, so I called it beer-thirty and headed to the barn, to give up the newest Au.

It's been a nice day!
Tesoro MEANS treasure.

Well a big congrats on the ring! That sure will make you do the happy dance! Glad the Silver is all trained up for ya, Beale.

you have the silver SAber, not the silver umax right? I recently got a silver umax and to me maybe cause i'm use to the "tv screen" of my xlt Iget a little frustrated with the silver and go back to the XLT. I think I just need more patience :pulltab:

Are you talking about the SSumax with the red pinpoint button? It sounds like you are. I have two - I think they are one of the best Tesoro has had in their lineup. I know the feeling with the 4 hockey puck, but its performance in trashy areas and tight places make it a gem for the type of hunting it is intended for and you'll soon get over the feeling and be happy having it in your arsenal. I've made several of my better finds with the little devil.

Yes, I got the one with a button and threshold adjustment..

LoL and I even pushed the button when I had the 4" coil on!
Talk abt silly!

I REALLY need to lose the probe that I use.
More and more targets I can find with it.
And never know if passing through a ring, or next to a chain or earring stud.

LoL First icepick probe I used I sharpened the point.
It did a cleaner job of skewering my fingers, but would pass right through foil like it wasn't there!

Hope to get a pinpointer soon, that only detects 1/2" or so, to find those little things. Cheaper than new spectacles!

Oh Gosh Pulltab... I was only joshin'
XLT must be a wonderful machine.
I've read so many good things about them, but never even touched one!

No work today, so I'm headed to a park to try sweep speeds with the 8 and 4" coils.

Hmmm. Seems my other Tesoros are 12mhz, and this one is 10mhz.
I'm wondering about swapping coils around.

The CS coil I use on my Silver Sabre (12mhz) came from a fellow who used it on his Cortes (10mhz).

I sure don't want to pop any output transistors because of a mismatch!

Probably less risk with the larger CS coil than swapping that little hockey puck to a 12mhz machine.
Think I'd better ask, before I do it.

Perhaps the frequency mismatch is why I've never felt I was getting much depth from the CS coil????

Nice looking ring.

The SS uMax is a good hunting machine.

I like mine. We get along very well.

HH,

Thanks Tabdog!

I was wondering if it would it be expensive to send my machines to the Arky Training Skool before summer.
Yours sure are trained well for tot lots!

You may want to double check - most of the umax machines are 10 mghz if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, pretty much any of the 5 pin older coils will work. Usually balance with the detector well enough that you don't have to do anything other than put it on. I called Tesoro about that at one time and they did tell me that if one uses a particular coil most of the time, it MAY get a little more performance if it and the machine are sent in and tuned to be a perfect match. The key word here is MAY. I haven't seen the need as I seem to get decent performance from the assorted coils I have.
