I work for the parks and recreation in my town so after work today I thought I would just hit an area that has some old oaks in it...well one wheatie was the only coin and the usual trash but I`m starting to be able to call what I`m going to dig in regards to the trash and that makes me feel like I`m learning my machine. the wheatie was only between 4 and 5 " deep but it sounded out solid and locked in good, sure enough it was an old coin and I like finding old coins...lol

Congrats on the find and starting to click with the machine.

rusty bottle caps..lol I noticed last night that it had a smaller sound, like a very small target maybe a deeper target but it was a very short beep. I`m going to continue to dig a lot of targets. I keep trying to make a coin appear beside some iron or other junk when in reality it`s just junk period. but with some patience and perseverance I think it`ll all work out. You know when you hit a good target , it`s a no brainer....but like I said I keep trying to make a coin appear mixed in with those questionable signals...don`t know if any one else does that but it does get old after a while...lol

Once you teach yourself not to try to tell the machine that it must be a good target, and listen to it telling you that it isn't, you carry home less trash and tune in to the goodies. If neither of you can decide whether it's good or not....dig it and know. Time on the machine and experimenting with different techniques is how you really learn what to listen for, and along the way you can dig a lot of trash.
Then you change frequencies....

I agree with the change frequencies statement as still being a newbie I am beginning to have so much confidence in my 9" concentric 7.5 coil and my ability to find coins that I am afraid to put my 5X10 18.75 elliptical coil on and leave it on. I have had it on a couple of times but always take if off and go back my old reliable 7.5 concentric.

Confidence b4 you dig is good to have,but as an experienced MDer you know the"what the..." always pops out of the hole when you least expect it....I have been using the 5x10DD HF coil as my main coil since i got the 705 sixteen months ago and really like it.It suits my type of MDing well....I have experienced the separation of targets a number of times with this coil,one time was in a neighbors yard,I could tell there were 2 dimes inches apart and judging by the depth i was pretty sure they would be silver and they were....Just last week i was hunting a park and got a double signal that was an obvious large target but also got a iffy quarter signal also...see photo....Like i said,really like this coil...
TeamSW...I used the 9" on my X30 for 5 years,one detector,one coil for 5 years...No complaints for what i learned and found.I'm glad I got the 705 gold,you get used to the difference in target ID and tones...Give it a chance!...GL

As I know you have way more experience in this MD game than me I am going to try the 5x10 HF coil again and like you mention I am going to leave it on to really give it a fair chance.

If your looking for the old coins then I would stick with the MF coils, DD or Conc, but it doesn't hurt to get to know the HF coils either.
