I keep seeing reference to a SEF coil. I know about Double D and Concentric or Mono. Could someone please tell me what a SEF coil is and it's advantages or disadvantages?

SEF is basically the brand name, such as coiltek, Sun ray Stealth, Nel and so on. The 6X8 Sef is a very used coil in the world of detecting ! The best of luck in your choice in coils.

Symmetric Electric Field
It's a type of coil similar to a DD but the intersecting areas of the two fields are modified to supposedly increase the effectiveness of the "sweet spot". Made by Detech

Okay, that explains it better. I have the stock coil and have been doing pretty good. Anybody on here like to say if it is better or not than stock. Of course I understand opinions. Just curious what advantages or disadvantages users think about it.

In my opinion, I love the stock coil. The 8x6 sef separates better and the depth is comparable between the two. It would be a tough call to say which one is better. I really like my 5x10 NEL also....too bad I cant find anything but clad with any of em:nopity:
