Paypal gift option

Jeremy,

I think the moral of the story is to offer people a fair price upfront versus creative ways to cut costs. Telling someone they have to pay a surcharge if they are not gifting is a poor business practice bordering on unethical. I don't walk into Home Depot and get hit with a service charge if using my MC. As I stated earlier, you are still making money for something you drop ship. Adding 4% makes you sound like Ticketmaster and their infamous convenience fee.

Just absorb the cost. People will start to talk and it will ultimately hurt your business. Something no one wants to see.

I think someone selling should be willing to accept whatever terms best fits the buyer and not let their political views get in the way. If someone wants to go put money in a GreenDot card from Walgreens and pay for a detector a good dealer should be OK with it.

Well said, Southwind. A reputable dealer works for the customer. I believe this gift option for dealers is a poor attempt at maintaining cash flow and padding the bottom line. As I said before, although they are here to promote the hobby, their ultimate goal is to profit from their support of the hobby. I have no qualms with that. What concerns me is that a dealer would go as far as asking the customer to pay via the gift option. I feel this at best is insulting to the customer and potentially discredits the dealer while raising the proverbial eyebrow. Yowow clearly indicated this in his post when he mentioned that a forum dealer wanted to charge him an additional 4% ex post facto. This clearly indicates the dealer is not willing to absorb the cost inherent with transaction fees. He would rather pass that on to the customer. I believe it is important for the customer to be educated on this and know that the vast majority of sponsors do not operate in this manner. I recently purchased three detectors from a sponsor and the transaction fee was a non-issue. He profited from the sale and I received the detectors at a price I deemed fair. Simple economics here. Nothing more to see.
