pin pointing with e-track

Just got an e-track but it is really hard to pinpoint targets and seems to loose the signal after the initial find. Is it the coil or do I need to do something else.

it is an iron false which will give you a signal before you dig and when you dig you have nothing OR you not pinpointing right ( swipe the coil slowly over the target till you find the middle of the target then keeping the coil in center turn 90 degrease then repeat where the shaft is connected to the coil scoot back three inches so when you dig the target is in the center of the plug ) IF their is trash near the spot where the target is and you keep pinpointing the trash ( 1...... dig up the trash then pinpoint OR pinpoint the target side to side not making a 90 make a cross on the ground with your coil where the target falls off the pinpoint the target will be in front of that you just wont have four signals you will have three

hope this helps ............ HH

Some videos on youtube will help...

I like the "X'ing" method. Say you sweep across a signal you want to dig, place the coil to the side of the detected target, press "pinpoint" then sweep across where your signal was. Use smaller sweeps with each pass. When the bars are solid and you get the loudest response, note where the center line of the coil is, now turn 90 degrees and pinpoint again... X marks the spot!

It takes a little practice and there are several methods to pinpointing, you will find the pinpoint of the Etrac to be VERY accurate once you get it down...

I like the method where you sweep the coil left to right just enough to get the signal to repeat both ways, back up slowly, while continuing to sweep the coil. When you lose the signal, the target is just off the front edge of the coil, dead center. If the target is really deep, it may be slightly more towards the center of the coil than right at its edge. This has worked the best for me since most of the stuff I find has some kind of ferrous trash near the good target and that makes pinpoint mode difficult to use as it will have a tendency to lock on the junk target, not the good one.

The shallow stuff, when I was first starting out, was some of the hardest to pinpoint because it gave you 3 or 4 beeps. The deeper stuff the X'ing or even the pinpointer button workes well. The "wiggle" method Idaho eluded to works for all targets.

Practice with a surface coin and also dig a hole and put a quarter at 7" and practice. You'll get it in no time.

this is the ONLY way I do it, I HAVE NOT even TOUCHED my pinpoint button yet this year

I use the 18x15 SEF coil and it's along the line in the centre

I too do the wiggle:laugh:

It never fails and saves time

Wiggle back or if there is trash between you and the target, you can wiggle forward, it will be right under the little indention on the back of the coil.(Just like the front) I have learned the deepest targets will actually be a little under the coil. You'll get it. If I can anyone can. Bury you a coin and test it out. Use pinpoint and the wiggle back and compare... GH
