Pitch Hold

Can someone explain when and what settings would be benificial using pitch hold? Is it better used in audio such as two tone ferrous rather than conductive? Ive read in Andys book that very deep coins have been found at the edge of detection depth using pitch hold, anyone have any luck with this method?

Pitch Hold will hold the highest tone encountered until you hit something else, so it has a purpose when looking for weak deep targets. The high pitch change (not volume change) will alert you that something is down there. I just use Normal or Long for most hunting. The delta (change) in pitch is plenty evident in Normal and the recovery of the threshold to the low hum helps to isolate the target. Most people don't need to be hit over the head by Pitch Hold and it probably doesn't get much praise.
