Playin in the mud with the F75

Been driving by this spot all week, F75 & gear in the truck, wishing I had time to detect it when it was not occupied by excavators/workers/etc. Watched alot of "good" dirt get trucked out all week long, the rain on friday helped slow things down a bit, not sure where it was trucked to. Stopped by this morning, after the rain for a quick go'round. Hot spot number two wasn't quite ready to be hunted, fingers crossed for next day off....

here's what I found:
some old candle lantern lookin things, lotsa broken bottles, a few neat rocks, an older bullet, lotsa "hot rocks" and slag...

not sure on this either, the teeth rotate kinda like a belt buckle, but not tough enough to be a belt buckle...

had highest of hopes for this coin shaped thing, heavy like GOLD, kinda encased in concrete crud... I think it's just a lead blob though.

Very happy with this F75!

Button looks like a keeper, as does the buckle. A search on "e.b. jones pharmacist mount holly nj" turns up records from around 1890 to 1910 or so.

I think you have a good place to hunt. Work it hard!
Cheers,

Why not just ask one of the construction guys/dirt drivers where the dirt gets trucked too..........if ya have to tell a small fib......tell them you may need fill dirt and want to check the 'quality' of it....to see if it fits your needs. From what I am seeing in the pics..........I would follow that dirt to Hades....to get at it:)

I read Tom Dankowski's article recently on using a magnet to clear out all the little iron (flakes, rust, etc...) to unmask the high conductors. Sounds like if you could find that fill dirt that it would be a perfect opportunity to try the magnet method.

Nice finds. Your buckle appears to be a suspenders buckle. The button with the eagle's head facing the right resembles a Federal navy button. If you use aluminum jelly it may clean up a little better. That is the best I have ever found to clean buttons. Especially the back. It will take the gunk right off and leave the patina. Just use a toothpick to clean it with. You will be amazed at how well it cleans up. The bottom of the eagle should have an anchor if it is a navy button. I would start with the back and it should clean up very nice. You can find the aluminum jelly at your hardware store near the silver and copper polish products. I included a before and after picture of a button I cleaned up using this method. And I included a suspender buckle I found as well.
