Please help with Old Button ID

Me and my hunting buddy went out saturday and did some detecting. He found this old button, and since it didn't look like any Civil War button that I've seen or heard about, I sorta dismissed it. But it looks to old to be casually dismissed. Does anyone here have any idea what era this button would have been in usage?

Would have had a post on the back & it attached to the collar of a US military uniform (army?). They are collectable, & probably WWII, maybe even WWI era.
I have found several.....some have like crossed rifles, unit numbers, etc.....
nice find,
Bill
