I was MDing a ball field when dad called me about 1:00PM.....they came home from church to find his front door kicked-in, the house ransacked and a few hundred dollars in cash missing (and they live in a well-occupied neighborhood). Dad & his wife are in their mid-80's and are now upset about this happening (naturally) and I'm concerned for their safety as well. I wish like hell I'd have been there as I am some Sundays to do laundry.....the world would contain one less scumbag

One thing that was taken (which is the reason for my post) was a small box of collectibles, several older political campaign buttons and one thing I recall was this belt buckle (which I happen to have a pic of)

I can't recall if this was the same box that contained several old post cards and advertising cards (but I have photos of them as well)....so if you happen to be on Feebay, Craigslist, and see a listing for this area, or live around the Anderson (IN) area and see/hear anything for sale from some scumbag, please forward me the info, even if it's just a hunch...I'd appreciate it.

If you don't have a safe, get one....this crap is only going to get worse. Fortunately a portion of my long guns were in the gun safe, and they didn't find dads pistol...which I have a feeling will be kept closer to his side from now on.

I hate scumbags with a passion :veryangry:

Maybe someone will spot it on someone walking around with it on.Graig's list lost and found would be a good place to start.

I'm just glad they weren't home. I try to tell dad the world isn't like it used to be, and he'll open the door to anyone. I'd put a sign on the door that says "no solicitors" just to keep as many strangers off the place as possible (though I still had to go out the door after one who refused to leave). Had they been home, it's hard telling if the scumbag would have still forced entry, and if so what could have happened then.

And yes, had I happen to have been there and someone broke-in.....he'd have regretted it for the remainder of his life, however long or short that may have been. Thieves are the scum of the earth :veryangry: I didn't want to post it anywhere it may have been noticed, and possible prevented someone from trying to fence it locally, I'd rather keep an eye open & see if any of it turns-up.

Thanks all for your concern.

Dad has a permit to carry, so today I swapped him my little AMT .380 Back-up for his 100 year old S&W .38 Special CTG. It was too bulky for him to carry (especially in the summer), and my little .380 fits easily into a pocket, so now he can at least walk into the house armed. I've got a large framed Ruger 9mm, which is fine to carry under a jacket or coat, but doesn't hide too well under a t-shirt, so I think I'm gonna go buy another smaller side arm this week, another .380 or sub-compact, and just donate my old .380 to the cause.

He learned today he had $500 deductible on the damage, and they only cover a max of $200 cash theft....so naturally his agent (Snake Farm) told him he shouldn't turn it in because it'd raise his rates & wouldn't cover all his loss anyways  So tomorrow we're replacing his front door with a steel one, and replacing the old storm door with a security door. I'm going to talk him in to some sort of alarm system too. Personally I wished he'd sell the place & move permanently to their place in Florida (where they spend the winters anyways), it's too big of a house for the 2 of them anyways, (but was fine when there was 7 of us living in it).

Again, just as a reminder....if you've got something you don't want some scumbag walking off with, better secure it! And feel free to take-out the trash any chance you get.
