I have two.

I never end a hunt on a bad target and I try to make my last find of the day a clad quarter. I bet 90% of the time a clad quarter is my final dig of the day.

I always wear my lucky hat even though I have hundreds to choose from including 3 or 4 from Garrett.

What are yours?

Chris

Go Yanks!

I was out last evening for a few minutes at the park up the street. It was getting late and I hadn't found diddly - not one quarter. I looked up at the sky and said, " I ain't going home till I find one quarter." Took about two steps and there laid a bright, shiny, quarter, on top of the ground. How's that for havig your Mojo working? :)

Hello,
Before I leave the house I always check for the three "B"s, which stands for Belt, to hold my sheath and find pouch, Batteries, as we all know, ALWAYS have a spare set with you. And Bug spray. Never leave home without it.
I too have a habit of ending my hunts on a quarter. My best hunt and record day came from gridding an area around an elementary school playground and soccer field. I focused mainly on quarter and dime signals. (although never turn down a solid nickel or pulltab). In a 1 and 1/2 hour morning hunt $3.32 and a 3 hour afternoon hunt $10.73. My best single day was a total of $14.05 all clad and at least $8.50 in quarters. I think I found a junk ring that day too. I just remember saying "just one more quarter". It took me a while to get back to the truck.

And your name is Chris? We are kindred spirits. I seem to remember coin totals as opposed to dollar amounts. My best day for clad was 5 hours at 3 elementary schools when I found 309 coins for around $28.50. The bark chip area at the last school was loaded and I dug 180 plus coins in 2 hours. My back ached for days afterward. Another few minutes and I could have had 30 bucks which is a lot of clad in one day.

You should dig more pennies. Lots of interesting things besides pennies on those notches. Go back to sites where you cherry picked quarters some day and get them.

Do you use a Garrett? Which?

Chris

I keep a field kit in my truck with all the never leave home without them items. Don't forget water. Once in a while I forget my Pro-Pointer which is a real bummer.

Hi Chris, Chris here, Ace 250 user, 10 x 14 DD coil, 7 months, still a newbie i guess.

WOW thats quite a haul for one day! I usually start hunts digging everything. It was only this one day that I was gridding and quarter popping. I very much agree that pennies are not always pennies. Quite a few times I have been suprised. In fact just two days ago I was doing an empty field where a house used to be about 100 yrs ago. I was amazed at how much stuff was NOT there. It was like there was never anything there. Anyway, I was out in the middle of this field after walking at least 20 yards with no signals at all when I got that penny signal. It jumped between penny and dime like a zincoln does and I figured, hey at least I won't get skunked. I dug and at about 5 inches i see silver. At first I thought it was just a small keyring but to my surprise it was a small sterling flower ring with a blue topaz stone. looks pretty old too. The only other things I dug in that field were an old gravy spoon and a 1965 dime. Another penny signal I had last week turned out to be a copy of an ancient chinese coin with the square hole. Doubt its worth much but it's cool. I WILL dig every penny signal from now on.
I know about now you are thinking, hmmm.... I want some pictures, right? I am still in the process of getting to the pic posting stage. I am making headway, I have about 45 pics taken, I just need to learn how to upload them and link to them. I kinda know how to, Its more of a time thing. I have a wife and two small kids. Its hard to get to the computer most days. And my free time is spent detecting. I work a really wierd schedule too. 3 days on, three days off, 12 hr shifts, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Hopefully in a week or two I can get some pictures up here.

Cheers :beers:

Pictures are good. Detecting is better. You'll have to figure out where your family fits in there yourself. Keeping the old lady supplied with rings might help you earn some time in the field.

We're all new compared to you know who.

Chris

Does the cash coin say copy? I found a real one from the 1700s. Worth about a buck.

Looking forward to those pictures.

i will not end a hunt on a penny find. i too have a lucky hat . yours may have to go out with your paper towels when you throw them out.
my hat is not a baseball team hat, we have the royals here in kansas city. that probably would not be a very lucky hat to hunt in. i guess i could use a football team hat, but we have the chiefs, so unlucky again. what's a guy to do? so i wear a "life is good" hat. i figure with a positive outlook like that, i may have some luck.

No need for bug spray out here. We ain't got bugs and skeeters. Something I don't miss from the Midwest where I was yanked up.

Bill

I carry my last Indian Head Cent find with me until I find my next. Some get to ride around for quite some time with me like the 1874 that is in my pocket right now... Been there for damn near a month. Some times if I find a bunch in the same spot I keep the one that was there until it loses it luck.

The hat and the towel both stay.

Chris

First. Clad is good!

Second. I'd be afraid to carry around anything too good from hunt to hunt. The way I dig around in my pockets I might lose it. I accidentally tossed a few pennies out today as I cleaned about 50 pop tops out of my pocket. I got one back but the other dropped to the bottom of the trash can and will eventually end up in some landfill.

I thought this was an interesting idea for a poll and I'm surprised so few people responded with a comment. Maybe I'll do a poll as to why so few folks respond to polls. I guess we'll never know.

Chris

Hmmm, I've never actually considered having an MD ritual. Now that you mention it, though, I have been getting a little lucky with my Boston hat.

Luckier than the Sox I hope. You're far too young to go over to the dark side.

Chris

Once at a area to detect and the machice is turned on,,, must dig the first signal ,no matter how weak,, if it can be pin pointed.

I pray for good finds. I am not always rewarded with coins though. But, I always am rewarded.
