Popping sound question.

On the beach, during sweeps wet or dry sand, many targets have this "popping" sound, and the normal beep seems to be cut short. I thought this was only on bottle tops/etc, but it also occurs with coins. Can someone explain? Thanks!
 
Bottle caps certainly do it. My beach is littered with them and they can drive you nuts. Coins buried next to them may give you the same sound. If there's none near the coin I can't explain.
