I just helped a friend get a machine long distance at a shop in Chicago... He called as the dealer told him that Minelab had a new machine... The CTX3030... Its 2500$ retail and they were going to be selling it for 2k... I wonder how reliable that is ??

Let us say it costs $2500 now I don

A friend of mine spent $12,000 on a fishing boat, about $3000 on rods, reels and tackle...and spends several grand a year on a fishing trip to Canada. Compared to that, $2,000 isn't much money. I know I will have just as much fun for a whole lot less. And you can't spend fish. lol (Although I enjoy when he takes me fishing with him.)

You can't spend fish, but you can eat them and feed your family and you can't eat a metal detector. We can find clad to buy our lunch and drinks. We can find old coins to keep and gold and silver rings and jewelry to sell. Sounds like a very practical approach to the hobby.

I know guys that spend a 100 bucks or more every time they go to the lake, gas for the boat and the truck and bait.

Metal detecting is relatively cheap considering that.
