Problem with E-trac Screen

I'm new to the Mine lab E-trac and yesterday was my first day using it for more then a few minutes at a time.
My wife and I took it to a park I had wanted to try it in because of the trash content. The area we were using it in was in direct sun light. After about 30 minutes in the sun I noticed the screen becoming dark on me and with in a few minutes it got so dark I no longer could read the screen.
I tried adjusting the contrast but it did not help I also tried the back light but again no help. Finely I gave up and went home. About a hour latter I checked the screen and found my screen was again brighter.
I had previously owned a Mine lab X tera 70 and spent countless hours hunting in the sun with that machine with no such problems.
Both machine have LCD screens. Can this be the problem?
Has anyone else experienced this problem and can you offer me a solution? Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Mine did that at first, but I adjusted the Contrast and have not had the problem. Liquid crystals work by electric, pressure and heat. If you get more heat then it can take, it could turn black.

I have had this happen on hot days. I just try to keep the screen out of the direct sun. One time I just put my hat over it and when I wanted to see the screen it was easy to lift as I hooked my finger thru the back. you could put a bandana on it or try to shade it with anything. Once again it only happens in DIRECT sun on hot days. Easy enough to just try to keep it shaded on those times if you turn your pattern a little.

Mine has done it once, but I haven't had the problem since.

I live in Southern Arizona. I've hunted this summer out in the direct sunlight for hours at a time and havnt noticed this. The only thin I've noticed is its hard to see the screen with the light shining on it. I often have to circle around until the sunkight is behind me to see the screen.

Your suggestion about the contrast makes some since as I adjusted mine to maximum when I first set it up trying to see it better. I have set it back to about mid setting now and will try operating there.

The day I experienced the problem was not very hot only about 75 degrees, but the sun did seem to be very intense and I was operating in direct sun light. As I said in my first post I owned a Min lab X-terra 70 for 4 years prior to purchasing this machine and never once experienced this problem with the LCD screen.

I want to thank everyone for their posts on my question. I am new to the Mine lab E-trac but for sure not new to metal detecting. I purchased my first metal detector in 1968 and have owned and operated almost every brand out there over the years and one thing I have learned is if you have questions about your metal detector talk to those who are using it.

Thanks again to all.
