Thanks in advance

A search of past posts and answers will find this....

Jason,

courious how your minelab compares to the Garret 1250. I have been using the 1250 about 6 years now and think I have pretty much pushed this machine as far as it can go.
I have never had the chance to try any other detectors but I am thinking about getting a Safari now. Only thing is, accept for reading everyones stories, the 1250is the only experience I have, can you tell me if you really see a big difference between your teo machines??

thanks,
Andy

Actually I just sold my GTA 1250 as I to know it can not be pushed any further. It is not even in the same class as the GT as far as smoothness of operation, being able to go very deep even when high disc is used, versatility as well. The Sovereign GT is the most versatile detector you can own and it is in a league of it's own as far as having proven performance. In short the Sovereign GT not the GTa-x 1250 is the more serious machine when you want depth and proven dependability in all soil types.
I sold the 1250 to put towards a purchase of the AT-Pro. It will be my water machine in fresh water lakes. I will also use it for schools, private yards, urban sites as well.
The AT-Pro will work side by side with my Sovereign GT. I had to let the 1250 go.

It all makes sense to me!! Upgrading is always the way to go. I am seriously considering the AT-Pro for my water machine, the price seems to be right. I don't plan on going any deeper than the 10Ft. mark anyhow. I currently use a Safari and my XLT which I have had at least 10 yrs now. I like them both, I use the safari more and when I bring someone out with me they can use my Xlt. As far as recovery speed, the Safari is a bit slower than my Xlt. Again, both are great machines.

Janson,

than ks for the info on the Garret 1250, I do really enjoy the hunt but as I mentioned, I have no idea how to compare as only used the 1250 and have always hunted alone so never able to compare.
I like using tones to best discriminate what I am finding and the 1250 is limited in tones as well, mostly I have to use how it is reacting and jumping around on signals with a target to determine what I think it is seeing.
Hopefully with how much time I have put in trying to get the most out of the 1250 will help me when I am abloe to use a better machine. As the Sovereign is a machine based on tone, I wonder which would be better for me to upgrade to, this or the Safari. I hunt mostly Parks, School yards old houses and beaches in the Seattle, Olympic pennisula areea. And there are some good old Lumber mill sites dating to the 1800's that are very heavy in iron that my 1250 has had no chance to see anything.

Any suggestins are appreciated but from your comments already I am definately looking forward to upgrading

thanks,
Andy

The Sovereign GT can do everything you mentioned. Plus nothing works better on a saltwater beach than a sovereign. When I use my GT after I used my 1250 I am so grateful for the smoothness of the GT when compared to the 1250. I do not use a meter on my Sovereign GT. I like the tones instead to help me, and believe me the Sovereign has a great tone id system. Get a Sovereign soon as the price is going up two hundred dollars in January. You can also look into a used Sovereign GT as they are built like tanks. Trust me when I say this. The Sovereign is much better than the 1250 and can hold it's own against an E-Trac or a White's V3i. The versatility of the Sovereign is the best among all detectors. Great depth, smooth threshold etc etc.

take care

I also forgot to mention that the cult of the Soverign is much stronger than the Safari. Which means the re sell value on a Sovereign is one of the best in the industry. The Safari is a good machine, but the Sovereign has a legacy of proven success.

All good advice a Minelab anything will perform much better on beachs and mineralized ground. I've used Soveriegns and now have a Safari that I like very well as you have probably read nothing out there can touch FBS or BBS technology as far as depth or hunting in high EMI conditions. If you want a knob machine the choice is obvious. If you want a machine with factory programs or your own personalized programs and VID at the touch of a button go with the Safari. Don't forget that Pro-Coil which has proven itself over and over. The choice is yours my friend and good luck with your choice. HH :minelab:
